Team India will try to maximise Suryakumar Yadav’s T20I hitting skills by sending him at number six in the batting order as per latest reports in Indian Express. The third IND vs WI ODI will be played on Tuesday.
Team India find themselves in this must-win situation after losing the second ODI to West Indies. India were bowled out for 181 which the Windies chased down in less than 37 overs.
Meanwhile, finding the ideal batting position for Surykumar Yadav in ODIs has been a headache for the Indian team management. He has batted at number three and four for the majority of his career but to no avail.
SKY batted at number three in the first ODI scoring just nine runs. He batted at six in the second ODI scoring just 24 runs. He averages 18.25 at No.6 at a strike rate of 107.35 from 4 games. It is understood that Ajit Agarkar and Rahul Dravid will make SKY bat at number six in the final ODI against West Indies to make the most of his T20I batting skills.
Suryakumar Yadav Is Learning About ODI Cricket: Rahul Dravid
“Unfortunately, I think he [Suryakumar] will be the first one to address that his ODI numbers probably not been upto his high standards that he has set in the T20, but he is also learning about ODI cricket,” Dravid told reporters after India’s six-wicket loss against West Indies in the second ODI.
“I think Surya is a really good player. There is no doubt about it. His performances have shown that especially in T20 cricket and even in domestic cricket” he further added.

Dravid further said that he is learning the trade of playing in ODI cricket and learning how to play in the middle-overs. Dravid said that not playing too much of ODI cricket is making things difficult for Surya at the moment.
“He has played a lot of T20 cricket through the IPL and played a lot of competitive T20 cricket before he made his debut for India. In terms of one day cricket, he has probably not played that much competitive cricket. You know because there is no IPL in one-day cricket. I think he is also learning about his game, learning how to bat through those middle overs. He is a talent and we want to give him as many opportunities as he can. It is really upto him now to take those opportunities and use those but in the kind of set up we are, we like to give people as many chances as we possibly can,” Dravid added further on SKY.
Suryakumar Yadav is not a part of the T20I squad against Ireland as he is amongst the probable players to be picked in the Asia Cup and ODI World Cup later this year. Jasprit Bumrah who makes his international comeback after almost a year will lead a young group of players against Ireland.
