Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma have had two consecutive 100-plus stands in the two Test matches against West Indies. They added a 229-run stand in the first Test and backed it up with a 139-run stand on the opening day of the Trinidad Test.

Yashasvi Jaiswal Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma have batted very differently in the first two Test. While the southpaw was more attacking, Rohit Sbarma was more cautious. They batted well together and that it resulted in two back-to-back century stands speaks a lot about their understanding.

Dinesh Karthik who is currently in England doing commentary in the Ashes series spoke about Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma as an opening pair. He said that they can be fruitful for India in the near future.

It definitely looks like something that is going to be really fruitful for Team India. The way they bat is very different from each other. They complement each other. Yes, you can say that the West Indies bowling pedigree (isn’t at par with) the likes of Australia or England. I don’t think we can hide from that fact. But what you need to give them credit for is the way they have approached it” said Karthik on Cricbuzz.

Yashasvi Jaiswal scored 171 in the first innings of the first Test and Rohit Sharma scored 103. In Trinidad. Rohit scored 80 and Jaiswal scored 57 as the Windies bowlers had a hard time dismissing them.

DK further said that West Indies took the wrong decision at the toss as they chose to bowl first on a flat track.

“West Indies won the toss, and what was surprising was the decision that they chose. They chose to bowl first on what looked like a really flat pitch. Why I said the decision was surprising was because the Indian openers, as usual, got off to a lovely start” said the veteran wicketkeeper-batter.

West Indies capitalized in the second session as they took four wickets in quick succession from 139 for no loss to 182/4.

“In the first hour of play, they notched up a fifty partnership, and they looked very, very comfortable and confident. The session after lunch definitely belonged to West Indies. From 139 for no loss, they took India to 155/3, and then 182/4” he added.

Virat Kohli (87) and Ravindra Jadeja (36) then added a 106-run stand to take India to 288/4 at stumps. Virat is closing in on his 29th Test ton which will be his second this year.
