IND vs WI: Twitter Reacts As BCCI Names Shikhar Dhawan Captain For India's ODI Tour Of West Indies
Since Virat Kohli has relinquished captaincy of the Indian team, there seems to be a leadership crisis in the Indian cricket team as even after the full-time appointment of Rohit Sharma as captain, this year alone, KL Rahul, Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya have already led India.
For the three-match ODI tour to the West Indies Shikhar Dhawan has been handed over the captaincy and Ravindra Jadeja has been named his deputy.
Dhawan was the first India captain with which Rahul Dravid worked when he presided in the interim on India’s tour of Sri Lanka last year.
While India had won the ODI series 2-1, they lost the T20I series.
Shikhar Dhawan’s Selection As Captain Is A Surprise
The selection of Dhawan as the ODI captain comes as a surprise because Rohit was expected to play in the series as he hasn’t been playing much cricket after the IPL.
As far as India’s schedule is concerned Rohit Sharma will be playing the white ball tour in England and then he’s expected to lead India in the 5 match T20 series against the WI later this month.
It was earlier reported that senior players will be rested for the tour but Rohit Sharma opting out of the tour has come as a bit of surprise. In fact, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah too are not part of the squad.
As far as Dhawan is concerned, him getting the captaincy means that he is still pretty much in the scheme of things in the ODI set-up.
