IND vs WI: India's 16-Men Squad For ODI Series vs West Indies Announced; Shikhar Dhawan Named Captain

On Wednesday, July 6 the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced India National Cricket Team’s 16-member squad for the upcoming One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies National Cricket Team.

India National Cricket Team all-format captain Rohit Sharma has been rested for the ODI series along with former India National Cricket Team all-format captain Virat Kohli and premier pacer Jasprit Bumrah. Notably, the aforementioned players were also rested for the five-match home T20I series against South Africa.

Also, young wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant, who led India in the South Africa T20Is at home and was India’s vice-captain in the recently concluded one-off Test against England, has been rested for the West Indies ODIs.

The veteran left-handed opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan has been appointed as India’s captain for the forthcoming three-match One Day International (ODI) series against the West Indies National Cricket Team, which will be at the Queen’s Park Oval, Port of Spain, and Trinidad.

Meanwhile, senior India all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja, who was Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) captain for half a season in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022, has been named as Dhawan’s deputy for the West Indies ODIs.

Also, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sanju Samson, Deepak Hooda and Shubman Gill have been included in the squad while Hardik Pandya and Mohammed Shami have been rested.

Notably, the three-match ODI series between India and West Indies will be played on July 22, July 24 and July 24. Also, after the ODI series, the teams will play the five-match T20I series.
