Ishan Kishan has made a promising start to his Test career. The wicketkeeper-batsman earned his maiden Test call-up earlier this year during the home series against Australia. However, he could not play any match as the team management preferred KS Bharat in all four Tests.
Ishan Kishan also warmed the bench during the World Test Championship final against Australia last month as Bharat continued to keep the wickets. He finally got the chance to begin his Test career during the recently-concluded Test series against West Indies and grabbed the opportunity with both hands.
While he did not get the chance to impress with the bat in the first Test, he did make a big impression with his wicketkeeping. And in the recently-concluded second Test, he impressed with the bat too. After scoring 25 runs in the first innings, Ishan Kishan was promoted to number four in the second innings as India needed to score quickly.
The youngster totally justified the faith shown in him by the team management by smashing an unbeaten 52 off just 34 balls with the help of four fours and a couple of sixes.

Ishan Kishan reveals Rohit Sharma’s advice:
After making a good start to his Test career, Ishan Kishan has revealed the advice he received from skipper Rohit Sharma. The youngster has revealed how the India captain helped him settle down and not put him under too much pressure. The wicketkeeper revealed that Rohit follows up with every player to create a comfortable environment.
“He’s a very experienced captain, knows how to deal with youngsters. I have seen him in IPL, ODIs and T20s how he follows up with every player, tries to keep them in comfort zone so they don’t feel any pressure,” said Ishan after the end of 2nd Test.
“When I was heading in, he asked me to trust my own game, plan and not listen to anyone. So it’s a plus point for a youngster to stay in the zone that captain and coaches have faith in me,” he added.
Speaking further, Ishan Kishan opened up on his game plan after being asked to score quickly in the second innings of the second Test in Trinidad. The southpaw revealed that his plan was to nullify the advantage of the spinners against the right-handers.
“The plan was to counter the left-arm spinners trying to bowl to right-handers by pitching on the patches and could’ve been difficult to score runs for them,” said Ishan.
“We didn’t plan to bat for long, we already had a good lead, wanted to set a target and get them back on the pitch so as to get them all out as quickly as possible. So the plan behind sending me ahead was to play positively, score as many runs as possible in 10 overs,” he added.
