The 21-year-old India National Cricket Team left-handed opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a cracking half-century on his Test debut on Day 2 of the match against Kraigg Brathwaite-led West Indies National Cricket Team on July 13 at the Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica.
Jaiswal was handed his debut Test cap by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the match. He was included in the Indian Test team on the back of his sensational performances in domestic cricket as well as Indian Premier League (IPL).

India were invited to bowl first in the match by the hosts and they did a brilliant job. Indian spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja – showed dominance and picked up wickets at regular intervals to bundle out the opposition for 150 runs.

Ashwin bagged a five-wicket haul while Jadeja dismissed three batters. Also, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj got one wicket each. As India got the opportunity to bat on Day 1 itself, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal played brilliantly and remained unbeaten at the stumps. Rohit scored 30 while debutant Jaiswal scored 40 as India finished the day on 80 runs.

On Day 2, Yashasvi Jaiswal played cautiously and completed his half-century by smashing a boundary off Alzarri Joseph. He completed his maiden Test fifty off 104 balls, and his innings consisted of 7 boundaries. He became the 8th Indian to register a 50-plus score on Test debut.

As the youngster reached the milestone, the Indian dressing was delighted. Head coach Rahul Dravid and batting coach Vikram Rathour stood up to applaud the batter. Also, Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja gave a standing ovation to Yashasvi Jaiswal.

At Lunch, India were at 146/0 in 55 overs. The century stand between Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal was the first 100-run opening stand in 23 innings for India. The last such partnership was between KL Rahul and Mayank Agarwal in December 2021.
