The 21-year-old India National Cricket Team left-handed opening batsman Yashasvi Jaiswal smashed a cracking half-century on his Test debut on Day 2 of the match against Kraigg Brathwaite-led West Indies National Cricket Team on July 13 at the Windsor Park, Roseau, Dominica.
Jaiswal was handed his debut Test cap by the Indian captain Rohit Sharma ahead of the match. He was included in the Indian Test team on the back of his sensational performances in domestic cricket as well as Indian Premier League (IPL).
India were invited to bowl first in the match by the hosts and they did a brilliant job. Indian spinners – Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja – showed dominance and picked up wickets at regular intervals to bundle out the opposition for 150 runs.
Ashwin bagged a five-wicket haul while Jadeja dismissed three batters. Also, Shardul Thakur and Mohammed Siraj got one wicket each. As India got the opportunity to bat on Day 1 itself, Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal played brilliantly and remained unbeaten at the stumps. Rohit scored 30 while debutant Jaiswal scored 40 as India finished the day on 80 runs.
