Hosts West Indies have put their faith in an uncapped spinner as they look to bounce back in the upcoming second and final Test against India after suffering a crushing defeat in the series-opener.

West Indies were absolutely no match for Team India as the visitors inflicted a humiliating innings defeat on the beleaguered home side in the first Test played at Windsor Park in Dominica. Batting first on the slow and sluggish track of Dominica, West Indies could manage only 150 runs in their first innings.

For India, their spinners starred with the ball as Ravichandran Ashwin and Ravindra Jadeja picked up five and three wickets respectively. With the bat, India declared their innings on 421 for 5. Openers Yashasvi Jaiswal (171) and Rohit Sharma (103) led India’s charge with the bat.

West Indies’ performance in the second innings was worse. Their batsmen had no answer whatsoever against Ashwin’s spin as India bowled out West Indies for just 130 runs to win the game by an innings and 141 runs. Ashwin picked up seven wickets in the second innings to take his match tally to 12 wickets.

West Indies call up uncapped spinner:

Ahead of the second Test in Trinidad, West Indies have called up off-spinner Kevin Sinclair in their 13-player squad in place of allrounder Raymon Reifer. Reifer has faced the axe after failing to do well with both bat and ball against India.

With the bat, Reifer registered scores of just two and 11 while with the ball, he could not pick up any wicket. The allrounder, however, will travel to Trinidad with the West Indies squad and may be used in case of any emergency.

Sinclair might not have played any Test so far but he is not new to international cricket. The 23-year-old has already plied his trade for West Indies in the white-ball format, having played seven ODIs and six T20Is so far. He was a part of the West Indies squad that recently participated in the ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup Qualifier tournament in Zimbabwe.

West Indies will be hoping that Sinclair performs well on his debut if he gets the chance. In the first Test, debutant Alick Athanaze was the best performer for the home side and West Indies will be hoping for something similar from Sinclair.

West Indies squad for the second Test against India:

Kraigg Brathwaite (c), Jermaine Blackwood (vc), Alick Athanaze, Tagenarine Chanderpaul, Rahkeem Cornwall, Joshua Da Silva, Shannon Gabriel, Jason Holder, Alzarri Joseph, Kirk McKenzie, Kemar Roach, Kevin Sinclair, Jomel Warrican

Traveling Reserves: Tevin Imlach, Akeem Jordan
