IND vs WI: Will Rohit Sharma And Virat Kohli Play The 3rd ODI vs West Indies? Rahul Dravid Finally Answers. The Indian team is facing severe criticism after the poor performances and the loss in the second ODI against West Indies. With the World Cup just over three months away, the alarming performance should be a matter of concern for the Indian team management.
The team management sprung a big surprise by deciding to rest senior players Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli for the game. In their absence, Hardik Pandya led the side but failed to guide the team to a win as India suffered a crushing 6-wicket loss.
After the poor performance with the bat in the first ODI, India’s batsmen failed to do well once again as the Men in Blue were all out for 181. The likes of Shubman Gill, Sanju Samson, Axar Patel, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav failed to get going with the bat.
Kishan scored his second consecutive fifty of the series but it was not enough for Team India to post a competitive total. In reply, West Indies chased down the total in less than 37 overs by losing just four wickets with their captain Shai Hope leading from the front. Hope scored an unbeaten 63 while Keacy Carty remained not out on 48.
Rahul Dravid on experimenting ahead of World Cup:
Following the crushing loss in the second ODI, India head coach Rahul Dravid opened up on experimenting ahead of the World Cup as he defended the decision to rest both Kohli and Rohit. The former India captain also made it clear that the team would be following a similar strategy when it comes to team selection in the upcoming games due to the World Cup and Asia Cup.
“I think we will always look at the bigger picture. To be very honest with you, at this stage in the cycle with the Asia Cup and World Cup coming up, and injuries we have, we have to look at the big picture. We have to look at things like that. We can’t get worried about every single game and every single series. If we do that, I think that will be a mistake,” Rahul Dravid said.
India will be looking to bounce back in the third ODI and seal the series. The third and final match will take place in Trinidad on August 1.
