India become even worse than Pakistan
PC: X

India hits an all-time low in catching under Shubman Gill, as they creep to a low behind Pakistan after Prasidh Krishna drops another catch during the Final ODI in the tour to Australia.

India has lost the first two ODIs against Australia, as they failed to dominate the home side. Much has been blamed on the Indian batters; however, the Indian fielders have also not been at their very best.

Shubman Gill's India hits an all-time low with the worst stats

Ever since the 2023 Cricket World Cup, where India was the best fielding side with more than 90% catching efficiency, they have dropped to an all-time low of 69% as of now. This has been the lowest ever for India and has come in the reign of Gautam Gambhir and Shubman Gill.

Since the 2023 World Cup, Bangladesh has been the side with the worst catching efficiency of 77 per cent. They are followed by West Indies and Afghanistan at 76 per cent and 74 per cent, respectively. Then come the Men in Blue with 69 per cent.

In the ongoing match against India, where Kuldeep Yadav made his much-awaited return to the longer format of white-ball cricket, he was denied his first ODI wicket since the Champions Trophy due to a sloppy attempt from Prasidh Krishna.

Alex Carey had miscued his sweep shot, which travelled straight into the hands of a diving Krishna, but he failed to cling on to the dipping ball. This marked India being humiliated to a low, a feat for which the Pakistanis have often been trolled.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma joined hands for an unwanted Indian record

Ever since 2019, the two most well-known names in Indian cricket have been Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. They have not only been the most successful batters but have also been the inspiration of the side on the field.

Kohli and Rohit combined to have dropped the most catches ever since 2019 in Indian cricket. They might have played the most number of matches for the Men in Blue, but have dropped too many to be considered.

While Kohli tops this list as well with 36 drops across all formats, Rohit is second on the list with 33 dropped catches. Both the veterans, however, grabbed their chances this time around at Sydney, for the ongoing match. Kohli dismissed Matt Short while Rohit took a sharp grab at the slip cordon, leading to Mitchell Owen's wicket.

Can India avoid the clean sweep, or will Australia take it home 3-0?

India has already lost two games in a row and has let the series slip from its hands. Captain Shubman Gill has started his captaincy in the ODI team with a series defeat, unlike his record in Test cricket, where he drew the series with England.

However, despite having lost the series, he, as well as the Indian management, would not like the series to end in a clean sweep. The Sydney ODI holds immense importance for India, and they have choked the Australians with their lower order struggling against the Indian attack.

Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma would also be playing their final match on Australian soil, and hence, they would also want to take something positive back home from the series.
