In a resounding display of sheer prowess and dominance on home soil, team India under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, claimed a monumental victory that will be remembered for a long time as they doubled their lead in the 5-match Test series against England. The stage was set at the illustrious Niranjan Shah Stadium in Rajkot, where the hosts unleashed a dominant performance that left England reeling and claimed their biggest-ever win in a Test match by 434 runs.
England’s pursuit of a mammoth target of 557 runs was swiftly quelled by the relentless assault of the Indian bowlers. With precision and guile, they dismantled the English batting lineup, leaving them in shambles with a mere 122 runs on the board. It was a great result for India’s bowling attack which was led by Ravindra Jadeja from the front as he claimed a terrific 5-wicket haul after scoring 112 in the 1st innings. India’s strategy saw England struggle in the match.
The foundation of India’s triumph was laid by their splendid batting performances across innings. Setting up the imposing total was no mean feat, but the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal, Rohit Sharma, Sarfaraz Khan, and Ravindra Jadeja rose to the occasion, setting up an imposing mountain for England to climb.
Rohit and Jadeja scored 132 and 112 respectively while Yashasvi Jaiswal smacked a splendid double hundred with Sarfaraz Khan scoring consecutive half-centuries across innings to become the 4th Indian batman to do so after Dilawar Hussain, Sunil Gavaskar, and Shreyas Iyer.
With back-to-back wins in Vizag and Rajkot, Team India now hold a commanding 2-1 lead in the series, along with a surge of positive momentum after a setback in the opening Test in Hyderabad. Meanwhile, Ben Stokes’ England find themselves in troubled waters, grappling with the daunting task of dethroning India’s dominance on home soil in red-ball matches since 2012.
As the series unfolds, England face an uphill battle to match the feat of the 2012 England team under Alastair Cook’s captaincy, which secured a 2-1 victory in the 4-match series. Yet, with standout performances from the likes of Jaiswal, Sharma, Khan, and Jadeja, Team India stand poised to extend their dominance and rewrite the narrative of cricketing supremacy on the grand stage.
Biggest run margin win for India, replacing their 372 runs against New Zealand in 2021
The significance of this victory cannot be overstated, as India claimed a staggering win by 434 runs, marking their biggest margin of victory not only against England but in their cricketing history overall. This triumph eclipsed their previous record, a 372-run win over Kane Williamson’s New Zealand at the Wankhede in Mumbai back in 2021.
The 3rd biggest victory for India came in 2015 against South Africa at the Arun Jaitley stadium when they won by 337 runs. The 4th win of this sort is the 321-run win over the Kiwis in 2016 and Indore’s Holkar Stadium while the 5th biggest win for them came against Australia in 2008 by 320 runs. India will now climb as high as 2nd in the World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle with this win.
