India set a world record after their aggressive batting display
During their batting, the Men in Blue went past England for the most no. of sixes in a calendar year. After the end of the first innings, India had hit 96 sixes in 2024 and with many more Tests still to be played this year, the record is likely to get bigger.
These 96 sixes have come in just 14 innings which is quite phenomenal. With 96 sixes in 2024 so far, India have now surpassed England's total of 89 sixes in 29 innings in the year 2022.
England's 89 sixes are a result of their 'Bazball' approach in Test cricket in which they play aggressive cricket with a positive mindset. They have approached this method ever since Brendon McCullum took over as their head coach in Tests.
But India's 96 sixes in 14 innings is just unbelievable and it shows the confidence in the team's batting order. Players like Rohit Sharma and Yashasvi Jaiswal have not been afraid to take on the bowling attacks as they showed against Bangladesh as well.
With Rishabh Pant back in the Playing XI, the six-hitting spree has received another massive boost. In the ongoing Kanpur Test, Indian batters smashed 11 sixes in total with Yashasvi Jaiswal contributing the most with 3 sixes.
List of most Sixes by a Team in a calendar year
- India – 96 (2024)
- England – 89 (2022)
- India – 87 (2021)
- New Zealand – 81 (2014)
- New Zealand – 71 (2013)
Indian batters produce a thrilling display of batting
Meanwhile, Indian batters just batted in one way against Bangladesh despite losing wickets at regular intervals. The batters clearly showed the intent to produce a result in the match despite just two days remaining as India took a first-innings lead of 52 runs.
Rohit Sharma scored a fiery 23 off 11 balls and displayed the way for the rest of the batters to come. After Rohit's dismissal, the batters did not slow down and smashed the bad balls to the boundaries. Jaiswal took the onus upon himself and was all over Bangladesh's bowling attack.
The talented left-handed opener top-scored for India with 72 off just 51 balls with 12 fours and 2 sixes. Virat Kohli also showed glimpses of his return to form with 47 off just 35 balls. Kohli too showed aggressive intent in an attempt to score as many runs as possible.
Despite losing wickets in the middle order, Kohli and Rahul kept playing aggressively. Rahul's return to form was another great news for India as he scored a brilliant 68 off 43 balls. Akash Deep also showed his batting capabilities by smashing two sixes towards the end.
