Ahead of the 5-match Test series against India, England all-rounder Sam Curran praised the Indian side while also recalling his stellar performances against them the last time the Indians toured the UK. The first of the five Tests will be played at Trent Bridge in Nottingham from August 4-8.

Talking about the match-up, Curran was confident about performing well against India although he hasn’t played Test cricket for a while. He hopes to repeat his standout performances in the lower-order which proved to be a thorn in the Indian side.

With the Indian side coming over, naturally I’ll have that [2018 series] at the back of my mind. Thinking about how that series went gives me great confidence going into Trent Bridge. I haven’t played much Test cricket in the last six months, so it’s exciting for me to hopefully try and replicate 2018. India is a fantastic side, so I’m sure it’s going to be a fantastic series,” the 23-year-old said.

In the 2018 series against India, Sam Curran scored 278 runs at an average of 38.86. It included a high score of 78, and most of his runs came while India seemed to be on top of the game and ready to close out the innings. Rewinding the clock, Curran reveals how performing against a strong side like India helped him discover his game.

Looking back on it, it gives you great confidence when you perform against that type of opposition. For me, there’s no better feeling. I always look back on that, thinking, yes, I can perform at this level. Naturally, anything that goes well gives you confidence, so it’s definitely been good and probably helped my game across all formats. It gives you belief that you can perform against high-quality players,” he mentioned.

Curran stated that the Edgbaston Test that England won by 31 runs on Day 5. He earned the player-of-the-match award for his brilliant efforts with both bat and ball.

That Edgbaston Test was my favorite, the way we won that game on the last day, the last session, where it could have gone either way. I think we needed four-five wickets. And yeah, the way I batted, the way I bowled. The whole atmosphere at that stadium – it was my first experience of Edgbaston, so great memories,” he concluded.

Sam Curran will have a vital role to play in the upcoming Test series against India. Since Ben Stokes withdrew owing to mental health issues, England lacks a genuine all-rounder apart from Curran.
