India penalised brutally by ICC amid tensions with Pakistan in Asia Cup 2025

The Indian women’s team, led by Harmanpreet Kaur, breached the ICC Code of Conduct during the third and final ODI against Australian women’s team. Notably, the Women in Blue have been fined 10 percent of their match fee for maintaining a slow over-rate in the series finale, which they lost to Australia in Delhi.

Australia won the three-match ODI series against India 2-1. The visitors secured a 43-run victory in the series decider on September 20. A total of 781 runs were scored in the match, the highest ever in women’s ODIs. Australia posted 412, after a century from Beth Mooney (138). India finished at 369 runs in 47 overs.

India Fined 10 Percent of the Match Fee for Slow Over-Rate

The ICC confirmed that India were fined for maintaining a slow over-rate in their recent match. Match referee G.S. Lakshmi of the Emirates ICC International Panel imposed the sanction after India were found two overs short of the required target.

"G.S.Lakshmi of the Emirates ICC International Panel of Match Referees imposed the sanction as India were ruled to be two overs short of the target after time allowances were taken into consideration," the statement read.

"In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time."

Harmanpreet Kaur Admits Slow Over-Rate Offence, Accepts Penalty

India captain Harmanpreet Kaur admitted to the slow over-rate offence and accepted the proposed penalty. The charge was issued by on-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Janani Narayanan, with third umpire Gayathri Venugopalan and fourth umpire Vrinda Rathi also involved.

"India captain Harmanpreet Kaur pled guilty to the offence and accepted the proposed sanction, so there was no need for a formal hearing," the stated added.

"On-field umpires Lauren Agenbag and Janani Narayanan, third umpire Gayathri Venugopalan and fourth umpire Vrinda Rathi leveled the charge."

Australia Secured 2-1 Series Victory Over India

Australia secured a 2-1 series victory over India during the third ODI in New Delhi. Opting to bat first, the visitors posted 412 runs in 47.5 overs. Beth Mooney scored 138 off just 75 balls, including 23 fours and a six. Georgia Voll (81), Alyssa Healy (30), and Ellyse Perry (68) scored crucial runs.

For India, Arundhati Reddy took three wickets, while Renuka Singh and Deepti Sharma claimed two each.

Chasing 413, India lost early wickets as Pratika Rawal (10) and Harleen Deol (11) fell cheaply. Smriti Mandhana recorded the fastest ODI century for India in 50 balls, surpassing Virat Kohli’s previous record of 52 balls. Mandhana finished with 125 off 63 balls, including 17 fours and five sixes.

Deepti Sharma added 72 off 58 balls, but India ended at 369 in 47 overs. For Australia, Kim Garth took three wickets and Megan Schutt claimed two.
