A massive update emerged on the playing XI of the India National Cricket Team for the T20 World Cup 2026 final against the New Zealand National Cricket Team at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, March 8.
There have been demands for the axing of struggling Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy for the title clash against the Black Caps, but there is no chance of these changes.
India to stick with winning XI for T20 World Cup 2026 Final
As reported by the Indian Express, the defending champions do not want to take any big risks before this big one and are expected to trust the same players who helped them reach the final.

After their thrilling win over England in the semifinal at the Wankhede Stadium, the Indian team management is planning to go with the same playing XI for the title clash against England.
They feel the current combination is working well, and changing the team just before the final could disturb the balance. The players have built good momentum during the tournament, and the management wants to keep that rhythm going in the summit match.
Rinku Singh and Mohammed Siraj put in extra work at optional practice
Before the big day, the Indian cricket team had an optional practice session. Some players decided to spend extra time in the nets to stay ready for any situation in the match. The explosive batter Rinku Singh was seen batting for a long time and working on his shots.
Senior fast bowler Mohammed Siraj also spent time improving his batting skills in the nets. Even though the team has done very well in the tournament, there are still a couple of small concerns. Young opener Abhishek Sharma has been going through a rough phase with the bat.
Abhishek Sharma and Varun Chakravarthy to be backed for the final
However, the other Indian batters have done a very good job and have managed to cover up for those missing runs. Another concern is the mystery spinner Varun Chakravarthy, who has not been at his best after the group stage.

Varun struggled in the middle overs, putting India’s bowling attack under pressure, and the team lost some control during that phase of the innings. Still, the Indian team management is not too worried about his form.
They strongly believe that both Abhishek and Varun can deliver when it matters the most. He is still one of the top wicket-takers in the tournament with 13 wickets. Now, it remains to see whether they will get the chance in the final.
Ahmedabad pitch promises pace and bounce
Well, the T20 World Cup 2026 final between India and New Zealand is expected to be played on a lively pitch that should help fast bowlers. The Ahmedabad surface is believed to be made from a mix of red and black soil, which usually offers good bounce and pace.
It is being said that the pitch will not help spinners much, but batters can play their shots confidently. A similar surface was used in the semi-final in Mumbai, where plenty of runs were scored by India and England. A total around 200 could be a competitive score in the final.
