India squad for 1st Test against Bangladesh announced, Yash Dayal called-up

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Sunday (8th September) announced the India National Cricket Team squad for the first Test against the Bangladesh National Cricket Team. First game of the two-match series between the teams will get underway on 19th September at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.

Rohit Sharma will be captaining the Indian team in the first Test against Bangladesh National Cricket Team. Virat Kohli, who missed the Test series against the England National Cricket Team due to personal reasons, is back in the mix and will be joining the team ahead of the first game in Chennai.

Left-arm pacer Yash Dayal has received his maiden call-up to the Indian Test team. The fast bowler impressed many with his performance in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024. Dayal played for India B and picked four wickets in the game which took place at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru.

Rishabh Pant is also back in the Test team for the first time since December 2022. The keeper-batter faced a horrific accident, and after making a comeback for the team in white-ball, he will be back making his return to red-ball cricket as well.

Pant will be the keeper in the team along with Dhruv Jurel, who will be the second keeper. Both KL Rahul and Sarfaraz Khan, who reportedly were fighting for their place in the team, have been included in the first Test squad against Bangladesh. They both performed decently in the first round of the Duleep Trophy 2024.

Jasprit Bumrah will be leading the fast bowling attack which has Mohammed Siraj, Akash Deep, who impressed by taking nine wickets for India A against B team in the Duleep Trophy, and Yash Dayal, who would want to cash on the opportunity.

The spin quartet of R Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Kuldeep Yadav, and Axar Patel also have been named in the team. Spinners were exceptional for the team in the Test series against England and would want to make the same impact.

The Rohit Sharma-led side reportedly will be assembling in Chennai on 12th September to prepare for the first Test against Bangladesh.

New bowling coach, Morne Morkel, will be joining the team in Chennai, and it will be his first assignment as the coach too under Gautam Gambhir, who will coach the team for the first time in Test cricket.

The series will also be late for the ICC World Test Championship, and it will be important for both teams in the context of the final. Rohit Sharma-led side is at the top of the table, while Bangladesh are 4th, having beaten Pakistan 2-0.
