India Squad For ICC World Cup 2023: Revealed- Will Suryakumar Yadav Be A Part Of India Squad Or Not?

Veteran wicketkeeper-batsman Dinesh Karthik has said Suryakumar Yadav should be a part of India’s squad for the upcoming ICC World Cup 2023.

While Suryakumar Yadav is still in contention for the World Cup spot, there are doubts that he might fail to make it to the team. While the hard-hitting batsman has taken T20Is by storm, his performance in ODIs has left a lot to be desired.

Talking about his T20I career so far, he has scored 1675 runs in 48 matches at an average of more than 46 and a strike rate of over 175. Currently, the number one ranked T20I batsman in the world, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 3 centuries and 13 half-centuries in the shortest format of the game so far.

However, he is yet to prove himself in the 50-over format. In 23 games so far, he has managed 433 runs at an average of 24 and a strike rate of 102. His reputation as an ODI batsman took a big hit when he was out for a duck in all three matches of the series against Australia earlier this year.

Dinesh Karthik backs Suryakumar Yadav:

While Suryakumar Yadav has not really managed to make a big impression in the 50-over format of the game so far, Dinesh Karthik believes the hard-hitting middle-order batsman deserves a spot in the World Cup squad.

“For me, the biggest person who can take home a lot in terms of confidence and in terms of giving confidence to the selectors as well, and as someone who is a world-class player but strangely hasn’t put a mark in ODI cricket, is Suryakumar Yadav,” Karthik told Cricbuzz.

“He has had quite a lean run, in the last series against Australia, he got three ducks, and post that, we also saw what he can do in the IPL. He is somebody who can take the game away in a whiff of a breath. That is how special he is. He is, in my mind, one of the best T20 players, and I have no doubt that he should be part of the World Cup squad,” he added.

Meanwhile, the World Cup is scheduled to begin on October 5 in Ahmedabad. India will open their campaign against Australia on October 8 in Chennai.
