India Squad For Women's Asia Cup Announced, Harmanpreet Kaur To Lead

The team for India’s participation in the Women’s Asia Cup, which starts on October 1 in Bangladesh, was revealed by the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Wednesday.

The team’s leader will be Harmanpreet Kaur, with Smriti Mandhana serving as her assistant. Jemimah Rodrigues, who was chosen to the team but missed the recent trip to England due to an injury, is expected to play in the major continental competition.

Taniya Bhatia And Simran Dil Bahadur Named Stand-by

Renuka Singh, Meghna Singh, and Pooja Vastrakar will make up the pace attack, with Richa Ghosh chosen to maintain wickets.

Taniya Bhatia and Simran Dil Bahadur were two more backup players picked by the selectors.

The other batters chosen for the team, in addition to Harmanpreet and Jemimah, are Sabbineni Meghana, Dayalan Hemalatha, and KP Navgire. Mandhana and Shafali Verma will likely the batting. 

Deepti Sharma, an all-rounder, would, of course, increase team’s batting depth. Radha Yadav, Sneh Rana, and Rajeshwari Gayakwad are the other spinners on the team. 

India To Face Sri Lanka In Their First Game Of The Tournament

The Women’s Asia Cup will be held for the eighth time this year. The T20 format will be used at the 2022 competition. Bangladesh will defend their championship. In the 2018 finals of the previous tournament, they had defeated India.

The Indian women are the most successful team in tournament history, having captured the trophy a record six times, and they will be vying for their seventh Asia Cup victory.

Seven teams will compete for Asian dominance in the Women’s Asia Cup’s eighth edition. Among them are the current champions, Bangladesh, as well as the past winners, India, Sri Lanka, Pakistan, Thailand, Malaysia, and the United Arab Emirates. 

India plays Sri Lanka on the first day of the tournament. Prior to playing Pakistan on October 7, they will face Malaysia (October 3), the United Arab Emirates (October 4).Later on they will face Bangladesh on 8th October and Thailand on 10th October.
