India vs Afghanistan Scorecard and Highlights: Post-match comments
India Skipper - Rohit Sharma: The last two years, we have come here and played some T20 games. We planned a little well. We adapted well to the conditions that were offered. We knew the class of our bowling line up will defend this. Everyone coming in and doing their job. That is something we keep talking about. Surya and Hardik's partnership was a good one in the end. We know what Bumrah can do for us. It is important for us to use him smartly. He is the one who is ready to take the responsibility.
Afghanistan Skipper - Rashid Khan: That was a surface we thought we could chase 170-180. You just go there and how you play. Against bigger teams, we should be thinking we will have to chase such scores. Body is feeling well. I struggled a little in the IPL. I am hitting the areas consistently now. We have enjoyed everywhere we have played. We forget our own skills sometimes. If the conditions are there, we will look to use it.
Suryakumar Yadav - Player of the Match: I think there's a lot of hardwork, there are a lot of processes and routine involved in it. I am clear in my mind what I want to do. I don't mind giving this Player of the Match to a bowler. First time it's going to a batter (from India in this tournament), I don't mind. I think you just need to know your game plan, and just play accordingly. I still remember when Hardik came in to the bat, I told him let's bat with the same intent. Let's keep pressing the pedal and keep pushing, in the end very happy with a score of 180.

India vs Afghanistan Live Score: Comments at toss
Rashid Khan: We would have liked to bat first. It's more about how you play the game in T20s. Happy with our preparations and how things have gone. We are facing good teams, need to control our emotions and play our natural game. It does help getting used to the conditions. We have to play good cricket. We have one change, Karim Janat is not playing, Zazai comes in.
Rohit Sharma: We are going to bat first. Looks alright at this moment, looks a good track. No grass on the pitch, I guess it will get slower. It's better than New York. We have to adapt to the conditions quickly. We have been here for a couple of days, we have played a lot of cricket. It's about understanding what we need to do in conditions like these. It's an early start. Usually start in the evening elsewhere. We enjoy playing here. We have made one change, Kuldeep comes in for Siraj.

India (Team News)
As India gears up for its Super 8s campaign in the ICC Twenty20 World Cup in Barbados, skipper Rohit Sharma and head coach Rahul Dravid couldn't have wished for a more favorable draw for the second stage of the competition.
Grouped with Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and Australia, the path to the semifinals seems straightforward, with Australia being the only higher-ranked team (No. 2) compared to India. Afghanistan (ranked No. 10) and Bangladesh (ranked No. 9) trail significantly in the Twenty20 International rankings.
It will be interesting to see at what position Virat Kohli bat in this encounter, India will come out all guns blazing in this all-important match. India's first opponent in the Super 8s, Afghanistan has earned a reputation as the giant killers.
Having already knocked out New Zealand, a team known for its consistency in ICC competitions, Afghanistan has shown they can upend higher-ranked teams. The victory against New Zealand in the first round was a testament to their growing prowess.
Afghanistan (Team News)
Afghanistan has acclimatized well to the Caribbean conditions, having played all their matches in the region so far. In contrast, India will make its first appearance in the West Indies tomorrow.
Many Afghan players have gained valuable experience in the IPL, familiarizing themselves with Indian cricket dynamics and thriving under the pressures of T20 cricket.
Afghanistan has shown remarkable improvement, evolving from a bowling-dominant side to a well-rounded team with a competent batting lineup. Despite their No. 10 ranking, they cannot be underestimated, consistently punching above their weight.
Rashid Khan has dismissed Rohit Sharma four times in 40 deliveries in T20s and the Afghanistan skipper could look at bringing himself on slightly early in the innings.
Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Rishabh Pant, and Hardik Pandya have collectively been dismissed by left-arm pace 31 times in T20Is since January 2022, making Fazalhaq Farooqi key for Afghanistan.

Pitch Report: Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados
The pitch at Kensington Oval in Bridgetown has been favorable to batters, making India's ability to handle Afghanistan's spinners—Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, and Mohammed Nabi—a critical factor. Players like Shivam Dube, prepared specifically for this challenge, will need to step up.
The middle order, featuring a strategic left-right combination, aims to disrupt the opposition consistently, a tactical asset past Indian teams lacked.
