The India National Cricket Team’s tour to Bangladesh might have just been cancelled after the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced the fixture for the three-match T20I series against the Men in Blue. The Afghans will host India in September, as all the games are set to be played at one venue.
After the long confusion surrounding the India vs Bangladesh tour, it might have been cancelled. As per the report from Cricbuzz, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) have given the green light to the Afghanistan side to host the T20I series. This is a big setback for the Bangladesh National Cricket Team and the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), who were trying to organise the tour.
India vs Bangladesh tour cancelled?
On Tuesday evening, the ACB announced the fixtures for the three-match T20I series it will run from September 13 to 17, and only one venue has been given, as all the matches are set to be played in the capital city, New Delhi, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium.
The BCB previously planned the India tour to be organised from September 1 to 13. However, with Afghanistan playing at that time, the series vs India for Bangladesh is unlikely to happen. India vs Bangladesh will have to find a new window for the tour to restore the cricketing relationships between both countries, which have been stopped due to the recent political tensions.
Why did India vs Bangladesh tour cancelled earlier?
India vs Bangladesh tour was cancelled last year due to diplomatic tensions. After that the relations between the BCCI and BCB had tensions between them. The BCCI restricted Mustafizur Rahman from taking part in the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 despite being picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).
After that, Bangladesh refused to travel to India for the T20 World Cup 2026, which saw them being removed from the tournament. Things did not get any easier between the two neighbouring nations. Now, as the tour is cancelled, it is believed that the Indian government did not provide the green light for the series.
BCB fails to organise India vs Bangladesh tour
The new Bangladesh government and the newly formed BCB tried their best to make the series happen and to restore the friendly relations between the two countries through the mode of cricket. They believed that cricket could be the one mode through which the tensions between the two countries could have eased.
Previously, it was also reported that former Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal, who currently serves as the president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB), came to Bengaluru after a meeting with Bangladesh Government officials with two other board delegates to host a long-awaited series with India.
Bangladesh is currently touring Australia for a two-match Test series. It is their first tour to Australia for a Test series. As in 23 years history, they have never played the Aussies in Australia in the traditional format of the game. The Bangla Tigers would look to capitalise on their chances as much as possible from this tour and play a good brand of cricket.
