After a good win in the second T20, India failed to carry on the momentum and succumbed to defeat in the third T20 allowing England to take a lead of 2-1 in the series. A lot of questions have been raised on the team selection for the last game and India would look to make some changes to the squad for the next T20. The way India has been defeated in the first and third T20s convincingly will be a major worry.

India hasn’t used the home conditions to their advantage and is looking to be threatened by the pace attack of England. On the other hand, England has shown why they are the number one team in the world and looked settled with their team combination. It is time to look at 3 Reasons Why India lost the third T20i.

3 Reasons Why India Lost The Third T20I:

Poor Batting:

The main reason behind the loss in the third T20 has to be poor batting on display. India needed to get to a good start and they have two of the best T20 batsman going around to open. But it made no difference and India again was stuttering at 24 for three wickets before the powerplay got over. It was always going to be tough from there and India managed a comeback in the last few overs with an individual solid performance from Virat Kohli.

Kohli’s 77 off 46 could take India to a decent score of 156 but never looked like threatening the strong England batting lineup. Rahul who has scored 1 run in the last three T20s needs match practice and is due for a big knock. Rohit started off with hiccups with Archer not going for a simple caught and bowled but couldn’t capitalize on it and the extra pace off Mark Wood got the better of him. It is early days for Ishan Kishan while Shreyas Iyer needs to address his short ball issues.

Lack Of Intent In Powerplay:

India had mentioned before the series started that they were looking to go after the bowling in the powerplay and be as positive as they can. But it wasn’t the case, as England took early wickets and pushed to the back foot very early in the innings. India should be aware of their strength which is 45 for 1 at the end of the powerplay and not to go hard at the powerplay and end up nowhere.

Also, once India lost two to three wickets, there has always been a panic looking at the score, and lack of intent in the powerplay has always hurt India. With the England quicks bowling at nearly 150kmph, all that India need is to time the boundaries and play good cricketing shots which would increase the scoring rate rather than going for fancy shots which has been highly costly.

Poor Fielding:

The fielding was another aspect that needed to improve drastically if Virat Kolhi’s men need to have an eye on the T20 Worldcup. With a par score on the board, it was mandatory for India to put their 100 percent on the field but it wasn’t the case as two catches went down in the third T20 which should have been taken. The skipper Virat Kohli’s dropped a sitter at point which could have dismissed the dangerous Jos Buttler who was taking the game away.

Virat Kohli has always set the standards high and this was a regulation catch for him to drop. Yuzvendra Chahal fielding wasn’t impressive too as he couldn’t stop the English batsmen running twos against him while he misjudged a catch off Shardul Thakur’ bowling at the third man area which was one of the easiest catches according to international standards. Virat Kohli’s men need to certainly work on the aspect of fielding before the T20 Worldcup starts.
