The first ODI between India and England has proved to be an injury-ridden affair for both teams. After Eoin Morgan and Sam Billings suffered injuries during fielding, India’s Shreyas Iyer also suffered the same fate to go along with opener Rohit Sharma, who was hit on his right elbow while batting.

The injury to Shreyas Iyer took place during the fourth ball of the eighth over of England’s innings when the Indian middle-order batsman dived to his left in a bid to save a boundary courtesy a full-blooded cut by Jonny Bairstow.

Iyer landed awkwardly on his shoulder and one could make out from his expressions that he had done significant damage.

The young Indian batsman immediately left the field and the BCCI has now provided an update on the status of his injury.

According to the update by the BCCI, Shreyas Iyer has subluxated his left shoulder. He has been taken to the hospital for scans, thereby ruling him out from the rest of the match.

Rohit Sharma will also not take the field during India’s target defense.

“UPDATE – Shreyas Iyer subluxated his left shoulder in the 8th over while fielding. He has been taken for further scans and won’t take any further part in the game,” wrote BCCI on its official Twitter handle.

“Rohit Sharma was hit on the right elbow while batting and felt some pain later. He won’t take the field,” added the BCCI.
