Legendary spinner, Shane Warne appreciates Virat Kohli helping Joe Root while the England captain was struggling with cramps during his marathon double hundred in Chennai on Day 1 of the ongoing Test match.
After electing to bat first, Joe Root led England to a massive first-innings total of 578 courtesy of his career’s 5th double hundred, third as a captain, and second in his last three Tests! On Day 1, playing in his 100th Test match. Root notched up his 20th Test ton.
After notching up the three-figure score, the right-hander decided to take cash in further by attacking the tired Indian bowlers. On the last ball of the 87th over, he slog-swept Ravichandran Ashwin over the midwicket boundary for a maximum.
In the process, Joe Root also fell on the ground as he was in pain from his cramps after batting for long hours in the hot and humid conditions in Chennai.
In quick time Virat Kohli, fielding in one of the close-in positions, helped out Root by stretching his leg before the England team physio came. Kohli has received acknowledgements from all corners for this particular gesture.
