In a desperate bid to resume bilateral cricketing ties with India, Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Zaka Ashraf has expressed his desire for the resumption of the cricketing relationship between the arch-rivals.

As of now, all the bilateral cricketing ties between the neighbors are suspended due to political reasons. In 2008, the BCCI suspended all ties with Pakistan following the terrorist attack in Mumbai. The bilateral relations briefly resumed during the 2012/13 season when Pakistan visited India for a short T20I and ODI series. Incidentally, Zaka Ashraf was the PCB chief at that time too.

Since that series, India and Pakistan have not played a bilateral series against each other. They only play against each other in ICC competitions and the Asia Cup. The bitter rivals will be locking horns against each other soon in the upcoming Asia Cup and the ICC World Cup 2023.

And as the arch-rivals gear up for the meeting, Zaka Ashraf has proposed a “Jinnah-Gandhi” series between the two nations, according to Pakistani news outlet The News. Proposing the series, the PCB supremo drew parallels with the iconic Ashes series. He stated that the series will be a testament to the rich cricketing history between the two countries.

India and Pakistan to lock horns soon:

The fans will see India and Pakistan in action soon when the Asia Cup gets underway this month. They have not played against each other since the iconic clash at the Melbourne Cricket Ground during last year’s T20 World Cup. India had registered a thrilling win over Pakistan in the last meeting between the two sides.

Their next meeting is on September 2 in the Asia Cup. India and Pakistan along with Nepal have been clubbed together in Group A while Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan are in Group B. The neighbors could play each other as many as three times in the Asia Cup if they make it to the final.

After the Asia Cup, both teams will be playing against each other in the ICC World Cup 2023. While the match was scheduled for October 15, recent reports have suggested that it could be rescheduled to October 14. The match will take place at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
