Aminul Islam will not travel to watch India vs Pakistan: The 2026 T20 World Cup India vs Pakistan is just a few hours away. The blockbuster clash will finally take place after weeks of drama from the Pakistan team's boycott of the match against the Men in Blue. However, they changed their stance on the boycott and decided to play the marquee match of the ICC event.
However, the controversy has not been settled, as Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) president Aminul Islam, who had a massive part in convincing Pakistan to reconsider their stance, and play against Suryakumar Yadav’s side during the ICC meeting in Lahore. However, in the turn of events BCB president has decided not to travel to Colombo on Sunday to witness the India vs Pakistan match.
Bangladesh opts out of the India vs Pakistan meeting
Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) chief Mohsin Naqvi invited BCB and some other Asian cricket board high-level delegates in Colombo to break the tussle between BCB and BCCI and also to resume the handshake culture between India and Pakistan, which was stopped during the Asia Cup, by the Men in Blue side.
It has been understood that Aminul Islam has changed his mind at the last minute and will not travel to Sri Lanka for the meeting, and also to watch India vs Pakistan. BCB officials confirmed the situation to Cricbuzz on Saturday after a meeting, as Aminul Islam chose to return to Dhaka from Kuwait, where he had attended an Asian Cricket Council conference.
Aminul Islam will not watch India vs Pakistan
BCB umpires committee chairman Iftekhar Rahman said, "I spoke with Aminul Islam. Since Bangladesh isn't in it, he said, 'Why should I go there just to watch the match?' So he refused. Maybe at first he said he would, go but later realized if Bangladesh isn't playing, what's the point of going unnecessarily."
The meeting was set to be held on Sunday, as the list included Mubashshir Usmani, the General Secretary of the Emirates Cricket Board. Some rumours have delegates from the top five cricket boards, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, India, and Bangladesh, who were also said to be included. However, with Bangladesh backing out, the meeting is now in a dilemma.
Why is Bangladesh not in the T20 World Cup 2026?
Bangladesh was ousted by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after it decided to remain on its stance of changing its venues from India to Sri Lanka, citing security reasons. Asif Nazrul, an adviser to the Bangladesh government, stated that its country will only feature in the 2026 T20 World Cup if its fixtures are changed.
The decision was made after their star pacer Mustafizur Rahman, who was picked by Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) for INR 9.20 crore, was released after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) ordered them to do so. The official reason for the omission was not provided by BCCI. This led to a controversy between the two nations.
However, the Bangla Tigers did not change their stance despite reassurances from the apex body and were replaced by Scotland in group C, which consisted of England, West Indies, Nepal, and Italy.
