The International Cricket Council (ICC) recently released the schedule for the ODI World Cup 2023. The tournament will kick off with the match between England and New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on October 5. The final match will be played at the same venue on November 19.

The Men in Blue are scheduled to take on their archrivals Pakistan at the world’s largest stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday, October 15. However, recent reports suggest that the venue for the match between the neighboring nations could be changed due to ongoing political tensions.

Renowned Indian sports journalist Vikrant Gupta recently stated that if the Pakistan government does not allow the team to play in Ahmedabad, the MA Chidambaram stadium in Chennai will be considered the venue for the highly anticipated match.

“If Pakistan government does not allow Pakistan to play against India at Ahmedabad, then Chennai will be used as a backup option,” said Gupta on Aaj Tak.

We Will Update The Event Authority – PCB Spokesperson

The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) spokesperson has stated that the team’s participation in the tournament is subject to government clearance. The spokesperson further emphasized that they are maintaining their stance of not playing the match against India in Ahmedabad.

“The board requires the Government of Pakistan’s clearance for any tour to India, including the match venues,” a PCB spokesperson said.

They Will Play Where They Are Scheduled To Play – Wasim Akram

However, former Pakistan cricketer Wasim Akram stated that the board is creating unnecessary controversy with the schedule of the World Cup.

“I don’t understand these unnecessary statements like ‘we won’t play in Ahmedabad’. Ask Pakistan players, they don’t care, they will play where they are scheduled to play,” Akram said.
