The Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 will be underway in Jun, marking its tenth edition. It is set to be hosted by the England and Wales Cricket Board and will run until July. The tournament will feature 12 teams, with 6 teams divided into two groups. Ahead of the tournament, the India National Women’s Cricket Team have announced the squad.
Harmanpreet Kaur will be leading the side in the upcoming edition of the T20 World Cup. The Women in Blue will be looking for a back-to-back World Cup win after their recent success in the Women’s ODI World Cup 2025 at home. Kaur addressed the press conference after the announcement was made, along with BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and chief selector Amita Sharma.
Harmanpreet Kaur etches a new record
Harmanpreet Kaur will be heading towards her 10th ICC Women's T20 World Cup tournament, appearing in every edition of the tournament's inception in 2009. This will be a historic milestone for the team's captain. She led the side to the final back in the 2020 edition, but finished as runners-up of the tournament.
Smriti Mandhana will be the vice-captain for the side. The Southpaw will be heading for her 6th T20 World Cup, and she has been the side's best batter across formats, having scored 75 runs across four innings during the last edition.
Will India surpass Australia and South Africa?
Harmanpreet Kaur and her girls will be taking on their arch-rivals, Pakistan, in the opening game of the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup 2026 on June 14. The last time they managed to secure only two wins in 2024, they would be looking to rebound.
Alongside Pakistan, the Women in Blue have Australia, South Africa, Bangladesh, and the Netherlands in their group. This group looks quite fascinating, and it is expected to be a group of death.

We have a plan- Harmanpreet Kaur
Smriti Mandhana, Shafali Verma, Jemimah Rodrigues, and Richa Ghosh will lead the batting lineup, alongside their captain Harmanpreet Kaur. They have a fairly new bowling attack with Deepti Sharma and Renuka Singh, who will need to carry more responsibility in bowling. Kashvee Gautam and Amanjot Kaur were not available for selection owing to injuries.
Speaking about her T20 WC plan, Harmanpreet said, “I feel that in T20s, powerplay is very important, if you are batting, you have to target runs. If you are bowling, you have to get a couple of wickets in that phase. We want to work very hard for the powerplay and also for the middle overs, as that also plays a big role. We have a plan and the learning which we got from SA.”
Harmanpreet said, “Amanjot is our key player, she is not available. She is away from cricket for 4-5 months now. It was difficult to find someone like her, but we are trying. She got opportunities. We have got Radha back in the side, she is also an all-rounder. It was hard to find Amanjot's replacement. We are trying to balance the team.”
The wait is over! ⌛
