Mamata Banerjee, the Chief Minister Of West Bengal, did not mince her words as she gave her first reactions to India’s loss in the ICC World Cup 2023 final against Australia. The Aussies beat India by six wickets to bag their sixth World Cup title.

India’s unbeaten streak of 10 games finally came to an end as they lost the World Cup final which was their 11th game of the tournament.

The CM of West Bengal Mamata Banerjee said that India lost the World Cup final as they wore orange jerseys at their practice sessions implying the color orange as a bad omen or ill fate. In the process, she took a dig at the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) which is the ruling party at the center of India.

In an interesting take she further said that India would have won the final had the match been played at the Eden Gardens or the Wankhede Stadium.

“Team India would have won had the final happened at Eden Gardens in Kolkata or at Wankhede in Mumbai. They are making our players wear saffron jerseys. Our players had opposed changing the blue jerseys and thus they added a touch of saffron to the blue jersey. Wherever the paapi (sinner) goes, the omen follows. Sin spares none.”

Meanwhile, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi extended his support to the Indian team and the players after their loss in the World Cup final.

“Dear Team India, Your talent and determination through the World Cup was noteworthy. You’ve played with great spirit and brought immense pride to the nation. We stand with you today and always,” he said in a post.

PM Modi met the players after the end of the World Cup final speaking individually to the players and giving them a morale-boosting speech.

India’s focus now shifts from ODI cricket to T20I as they gear up to play a five-match T20I series against Australia which will be a perfect start to their preparations for the T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and the Caribbean.
