The IPL 2025 mega auction has created a lot of buzz already with a few changes in retentions expected. All the franchises had a meeting with the BCCI on July 31 with a few recommendations suggested.

The number of retentions was a hugely debated topic with KKR and SRH wanting the BCCI to allow teams as many as 7-8 retentions so that they can retain much of the core of the side.

All the franchises unanimously said no to mega auctions and preferred mini auctions instead. The dynamics of the IPL 2025 auction are about to change with a few rule changes expected as well.

The BCCI has said that they will review the suggestions and come out with a decision by the end of the month. Meanwhile, several Indian young players are looking forward to the mega auction.

The likes of Abhishek Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Arshdeep Singh, Ravi Bishnoi, and KL Rahul amongst others are the big names who should be in contention to fetch big money if they are released by their former franchises. Rahul is expected to part ways with LSG as well and go to RCB as per reports.

Meanwhile, in this article, we take a look at five Indian legends who can retire from T20s if they go unsold in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

5 Indian Legends Who Can Retire From T20s If Not Picked In IPL 2025

Amit Mishra

Mishra is aging 41 currently and will turn 42 by the time the IPL starts next year. He is not getting consistent chances in the IPL for the last few years. Last year with the Impact Player rule coming up, the Lucknow Super Giants decided to use him as an Impact sub in the games that they played.

However, if the rule is abolished by the BCCI before the start of this season, Mishra might find it tough to get a franchise. He currently stands on 174 IPL wickets.

Ishant Sharma

The tall and lank Indian pacer has been a veteran for India in international cricket. However, in IPL cricket he has not transformed his potential into performance. Despite playing in the league for 17 years, he has taken just over 100 wickets and has not played 100 matches in the league.

He has played for several franchises but none have given him a longer run. He might have already played his last in the IPL and there are high chances of him going unsold.

Umesh Yadav

After Gujarat Titans capped off a disappointing season, Umesh Yadav, the Indian veteran might find it tough to get a franchise in the next mega auction. His best in the IPL has come for KKR and Delhi Capitals who truly utilized his potential to the max.

He stands six short of 150 IPL wickets at the moment and in case he goes unsold next year he might not be bought back by any of the IPL franchises. However, Umesh is still young enough and bowls at a decent pace to attract bids.

Piyush Chawla

Piyush Chawla has played for Mumbai Indians in the last two seasons. In IPL 2023, he picked up 22 wickets while in 2024 he picked up just 13. After Mumbai's exit from the league earlier this year, Chawla said that he is looking forward to playing in the next cycle of three years.

With 192 wickets, he is the second-highest wicket-taker in the IPL after Yuzvedra Chahal (196). He might look forward to playing at least one more season and get to 200 IPL wickets.

Krunal Pandya

Krunal Pandya has played his best in the IPL for Mumbai Indians where he scored 1143 runs and picked up 51 wickets across six seasons. However, he has not played his best for LSG having scored just over 500 runs and picking up just 25 wickets across three seasons.

With all teams needing a good all-rounder, Pandya might lose the favor of teams across franchises.
