Former Pakistan National Cricket Team captain Shahid Afridi has opened up on the ongoing battle between the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), which is related to the Asia Cup 2023 and ICC Men’s Cricket World Cup 2023.
The matter between the two cricket boards got underway after the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) secretary Jay Shah, who is also the president of the Asian Cricket Council, said in October that next year’s Asia Cup will be held at a neutral venue as India can’t travel to Pakistan for the marquee tournament.

In response, the PCB chairman Ramiz Raja threatened to pull out of next year’s 50-over Cricket World Cup, which is set to be held in India. Recently, Ramiz Raja once again fired shots at BCCI and asserted that the Men In Green might also pull out of the next year’s Asia Cup if the tournament is not held in Pakistan.
Meanwhile, Shahid Afridi said that the relations between the two countries have always improved because of cricket and added that the Indians would be willing to see Team Pakistan play cricket in India.
“The relations between Pakistan and India have always improved due to cricket,” Afridi said when asked about BCCI vs PCB battle, as quoted by CricPakistan.com.
“Indians want to see Pakistan play cricket in India,” the former Pakistan player added.
The way Ramiz was speaking, I mean I was shocked – Shahid Afridi on PCB chief’s remark on Rawalpindi pitch
The first Test of the three-match series between England and Pakistan was played at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium from December 1 to 5.
A lifeless pitch was produced for England’s first Test tour of Pakistan in 17 years and several fans and experts slammed the PCB and pitch curators for the poor surface. The flat Rawalpindi deck offered nothing to the bowlers and the batters from both teams piled up big runs.
Talking about the pitch, Ramiz Raja said that Pakistan is still years away from preparing a good track for a five-day match. Reacting to Raja’s remark, Afridi on Sama TV said:
“The way Ramiz was speaking, I mean I was shocked to listen to him saying that we cannot make tracks like these. International matches have been going on in Pakistan for such a long time but then we say stuff like these. Ramiz said that he wanted a turning track I feel in this weather it would have been something big.”
Pakistan became the latest victims of ‘Bazball’ when they failed to chase down the target of 343 runs on the flat Rawalpindi surface and lost by 74 runs.
