Asia Cup 2023 is set to commence on August 30. India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and Nepal are the six teams that will battle against each other for the title.

A total of 17 games will take place during the tournament. Asia Cup 2023 final is scheduled to be played on September 17. Pakistan and Sri Lanka are co-hosts of Asia Cup 2023 and all the matches will be played across these two nations.

Rohit Sharma is the skipper of Team India in ODIs and is expected to lead the team. However, what if all the seniors are rested in Asia Cup 2023 and a young squad takes the field? In this article, we form a hypothetical squad for Asia Cup 2023 if all seniors are left out.

Openers- Shubman Gill, Yashasvi Jaiswal

For the openers, Shubman Gill and Yashasvi Jaiswal should be picked in Asia Cup 2023 if all senior players are rested. Gill is the leading run-getter for India in 2023. The right-handed batsman has slammed 750 runs in 12 ODI games this year with 3 centuries and 2 fifties.

Yashasvi Jaiswal has not played any ODI game so far. The left-handed batsman recently made his debut. However, he is an impeccable opener who has already slammed a ton in Test and half-century in T20Is.

Middle-Order Batters- Ruturaj Gaikwad, Tilak Varma, Sai Sudharsan

In the middle-order three batsmen who should be picked in Asia Cup 2023 squad if all seniors are left out are Ruturaj Gaikwad, Sai Sudharsan, and Tilak Varma. Ruturaj Gaikwad has played has played 2 ODIs for India so far in which he hit 27 runs.

The CSK opener has also played 9 T20Is in which he accounts for 135 runs. The right-handed batter has shown marvellous form this year. Sai Sudharsan has executed brilliant form in ODIs while Tilak Varma made a stunning debut in the previous T20I series against West Indies. The left-handed batsman ended as the leading run-getter for India.

Wicketkeepers- Ishan Kishan, Sanju Samson

For wicketkeepers, Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson are the two best options for Asia Cup 2023 if seniors are rested. Both of them have done an amazing job in the absence of Rishabh Pant.

Kishan also won the Player of the Series award in the recent IND vs WI ODI series. The left-handed batter smacked the fifties in all three games. Samson also scored a half-century in one ODI game and has shown decent form in ODIs.

All-Rounders- Shahbaz Ahmed, Washington Sundar

For all-rounders, Shahbaz Ahmed and Washington Sundar make up this list. Ahmed made his international debut last year. The left-arm spinner hunted 3 wickets in 3 games. He is also part of the upcoming Ireland tour.

Washington Sunar is another emerging all-rounder for India. In 2023, the left-arm spinner accounts for 2 scalps and 21 runs across 4 ODIs.

Spinners- Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakravarthy

If seniors like Kuldeep Yadav and Yuzvendra Chahal are rested, spinners like Ravi Bishnoi and Varun Chakravarthy should be picked for Asia Cup 2023 squad. Both these spinners gave impressive performances in IPL 2023. Bishnoi was also part of the IND vs WI T20I series and is also picked in the upcoming T20I series against Ireland.

Pacers- Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, Jaydev Unadkat

For pacers, four names that top this list in the absence of seniors are Umran Malik, Mukesh Kumar, Prasidh Krishna, and Jyadev Unadkat. Umran Malik has played some ODIs this year and accounts for 6 wickets in 5 games.

Mukesh Kumar recently made his international debut against West Indies. In 3 ODI games, the right-arm pacer hunted 4 wickets. Prasidh Krishna has 25 wickets in 14 ODIs so far. The right-arm seamer was out of the field this year due to a hamstring injury.

Krishna is back in IND vs IRE T20I series. Jaydev Unadkat was also part of many international series this year and also rocked the field during domestic tournaments.
