The IPL has always been kind to some players and has not gone the way they would have liked for some overseas batsman despite being in prolific form for their national team. The franchises have always spent a lot of money on the in-form overseas players who will have a big impact on the IPL.

However, some big names from international cricket have failed in the IPL and the prize money has been a major issue increasing the pressure on the players to perform. Here are five overseas batsmen who shine for their national team but fail in IPL.

Aaron Finch has been a much disappointing player in the IPL as his international numbers are so good. He has been destructive at the top of the order for Australia alongside David Warner and, surprisingly, he hasn’t been anywhere near to his best in the IPL.

The 34-year-old has represented as many as eight IPL teams including Rajasthan Royals, Delhi Capitals, Pune Warriors, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Mumbai Indians, Gujarat Lions, Punjab Kings, and the Royal Challengers Bangalore. His IPL numbers haven’t been convincing to his talent with 2005 runs in 87 matches at an average of 25.7.

Glenn Maxwell has been picked up in the auction for a price of 14.25 crores by the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the Auction 2021 despite his failures in the last IPL. Such has been the story with Maxwell throughout his IPL career as the franchises have never been afraid to take a risk by picking him in the auction despite he failing constantly.

Maxwell has played 82 IPL games scoring 1505 runs at an average of 22.1 so far in his career. His best season came in the 2014 IPL in UAE when he played for the Kings XI Punjab and scored consistently. Apart from the 2014 season. he has faced a lot of criticism in the Indian premier league for not being effective enough. His overall T20 international numbers for Australia has been very good which is surprising.

Martin Guptill:

Martin Guptill has been a prolific run-scorer for New Zealand in the limited-overs format and he was expected to be a big player in the IPL but it hasnt gone his way as the franchises haven’t stuck with him long. He last played in the 2019 season for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian premier league.

He has played in 13 games so far scoring 270 runs with the highest score of 50 not out. However, his overall T20 numbers have been very good and has been part of three franchises already with Mumbai Indians, Punjab Kings, and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian premier league.

Tim Southee:

Tim Southee has excellent numbers in international cricket but hasn’t been very effective in the biggest league despite having a lot of experience. His international T20 numbers have been very better considering his IPL numbers and he he wasn’t picked up by any franchise in the recent Auction 2021.

He has been part of four different franchises including Chennai Super Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Mumbai Indians and the latest being Royal Challengers Bangalore. Overall, he has played 40 IPL games taking 28 wickets at an economy of 8.74. He played his last IPL game in 2019 for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and wasn’t retained for the next year.

Tabraiz Shamsi:

The left-arm chinaman from South Africa has been very impressive in the recent T20 internationals and has been very economical too. He has improved his bowling on a large note and has risen to the second spot in the ICC t20 rankings for men’s bowlers.

Shamsi was part of the Royal Challengers Bangalore unit from 2016 to 2018 and played just four games taking only three wickets at an economy rate of 9.18. His poor numbers led to his downfall and he did not find a buyer again in the auction after getting released in 2018 by RCB.
