Former Indian batsman Aakash Chopra has opined that the Delhi Capitals might go after Australian all-rounder Glenn Maxwell in the upcoming auction for IPL 2021. Delhi Capitals had a successful campaign in the 2020 IPL season and they have retained most of the big players. They recently traded Harshal Patel and Australian all-rounder Daniel Sams to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Delhi finished as the runners up of IPL 2020 and they still have a strong Indian batting lineup and well supported by Overseas bowlers. Kagiso Rabada and Shikar Dhawan had an excellent with the ball and the bat respectively in the last season, while they have one of the best spin bowling unit with the likes of Axar Patel, R Ashwin and Amit Mishra but the area where they lack depth is the Indian fast bowling unit.

Aakash Chopra Suggests Back up All Rounders For Stoinis

Aakash Chopra came up with some suggestions for the backup all-rounder position as Cameron Green, Moises Henriques, Chris Morris or Shivam Dube. He also told that the Bangladesh all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan won’t fit into this side as he is a top-order batsman while Delhi Capitals will be hoping to get an all-rounder who can finish the innings and bowl a bit.

“The Delhi Capitals may need a backup for Marcus Stoinis, an all-rounder who can bat down the order, play the big shots and bowl a little. It is better if he can bowl fast but spin will also do,” said Chopra.

“So, it could be Cameron Green, Moises Henriques, Chris Morris or Shivam Dube. I don’t see any other player of Stoinis’ ability coming in the auction. Shakib doesn’t fit in this team as he is a top-order batsman,” added Aakash Chopra.

Ricky Ponting Could Get In Maxwell

Aakash Chopra also told that the Delhi Capitals coach Ricky Ponting likes Maxwell which could earn him a spot in Delhi during the auction. Maxwell also provides them with some handy spin bowling and can tonk it in the end which might be useful for a team like Delhi Capitals. But Delhi will be aware of Maxwell’s poor form in IPL and they might have to think twice before roping in a player like Maxwell.

They have Shimron Hetmyer in the middle order. They can look for another big-hitter. Glenn Maxwell might just be an option as they might go after him. Ricky Ponting likes this player a lot and I won’t be surprised if he lifts the paddle at least once for him. They might think about him because they need a finisher,” stated Aakash Chopra.

Delhi Capitals also need some Indian fast bowlers along with Ishant and Avesh Khan as they have released Tushar Deshpande, Mohit Sharma and Harshal Patel.
