IPL 2021: ACA Chief Todd Greenburg Urges Australian Cricketers To Be More Diligent While Signing Up For T20 Leagues In Covid Era

Australian Cricket Association Chief Executive, Todd Greenburg, has urged the Aussie cricketers to be more diligent and do a bit of homework before signing up for T20 Leagues around the world in the Covid era.
The 14th season of the Indian Premier League [IPL], on Tuesday, was suspended for an indefinite period of time by the BCCI following multiple Covid positive cases, leaving the Australian contingent stranded due to a travel ban imposed by the Scott Morrison-led government till May 15th.
“I’m not sure it will create reticence but it will ensure players do their due diligence before they sign agreements,” Greenberg told ESPNcricinfo.
“The world is literally changing before our eyes particularly with Covid and on that side of the world, obviously, those cases are going up exponentially,” he added.
While the likes of Josh Hazlewood, Mitchell Marsh had pulled out of IPL 2021 before the start of the season citing bubble fatigue issues, the likes of Adam Zampa, Kane Richardson and Andrew Tye did the same as cases began to explode in India.
The Australian contingent sans Mike Hussey, who has tested positive for the Wuhan virus, has departed for the Maldives via a chartered flight arranged by the BCCI.
With the Australian government mandating the travelers not enter directly via India, the contingent will spend two weeks in the Maldives before they fly back home.
”We’re enjoying our freedoms here in Australia. It is a very different place over there. If anything it sends a message to players about making sure you do your homework before making any decisions,” Greenberg added.
