With the second phase of IPL 2021 rescheduled in September in the UAE, several overseas players’ participation remains in doubt. Only 29 matches could be possible in the first phase as a handful of COVID-19 positive cases forced the BCCI to postpone the competition indefinitely. But the BCCI, according to Cricbuzz, revealed they are doing their best to ensure their availability.

Previously, England Cricket Board managing director Ashley Giles remarked their players would not receive permission to participate in the remaining 31 matches of IPL 2021 in the UAE. The former England spinner conceded that the national team already has a packed schedule, including the T20 series in Bangladesh and Pakistan, followed by the T20 World Cup. But the sub-continent tours are yet to get confirmation and the decision will probably arrive in a week.

Nevertheless, key Australian players like Glenn Maxwell and David Warner are likely to be available for it. Glenn Maxwell of Royal Challengers Bangalore and SunRisers Hyderabad’s David Warner are crucial to their franchise’ chances. They will also gain invaluable experience of playing in the UAE ahead of the T20 World Cup.

With South Africa set to visit Sri Lanka for three ODIs and as many T20Is in September, they might not be available from the start. The series ends on the 12th and the lucrative tournament commences from the 19th. Hence, the franchises remain unsure of the UAE government allowing a bubble to bubble transfer from Sri Lanka. But a similar thing will occur for those participating in the Caribbean Premier League which ends on the 15th of September.
