Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper David Warner gave an update about Kane Williamson’s return to the team after the loss against Mumbai Indians. Williamson, who was expected to be fit to play for Sunrisers Hyderabad within the first week of IPL 2021, has not taken to the field even after Sunrisers Hyderabad’s three consecutive defeats in IPL 2021. The David Warner-led side lost to Mumbai Indians on Saturday by 13 runs, registering their 3rd loss in IPL 2021.

During Sunrisers Hyderabad vs Mumbai Indians match, Kane Williamson was seen sitting in the dugout. Sunrisers Hyderabad failed to chase a low target of 151 runs against Mumbai Indians, even after managing a great start by openers David Warner and Jonny Bairstow.

Kane Williamson Coming Along Nicely, Says David Warner

New Zealand Kane Williamson was benched for the match, as David Warner chose Jonny Bairstow, Rashid Khan, and Mujeeb Ur Rahman are the other three overseas players in the team. While talking during the post-match presentation, Warner said that Williamson is coming along nicely.

“We have to speak to the physios, he’s (Kane Williamson) coming along nicely and plays a big role in our squad,” David Warner said.

Speaking about the match against Mumbai Indians, the Australian cricketer Warner called poor batting as the reason for Sunrisers Hyderabad’s defeat. He also said that his team needs some smart cricket in the middle-order.

“I don’t know how to take that. Two of us got set, my run out, Jonny stepping on his wickets, and false shots in the middle proved that if you don’t have two guys at the end, you don’t win. These scores are very chase-able, it’s just poor batting.

“If you get a partnership and have one guy at the end, you can chase down 150 easily. You just need smart cricket in the middle, we aren’t doing that,” David Warner added.

Chasing 151 runs against Mumbai Indians, openers David Warner (36) and Jonny Bairstow (43) started well for Sunrisers Hyderabad. They scored 57 runs in the powerplay overs. However, when both the openers got out, the middle-order batsmen could not take charge of the batting. Sunrisers Hyderabad kept losing wickets and were eventually bowled out for 137 in 19.4 overs.

After the defeat by 13 runs against Mumbai Indians, Sunrisers Hyderabad moved to the bottom of the points table after three losses in three games in IPL 2021 so far.

Earlier, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost to Royal Challengers Bangalore by 6 runs in their 2nd game. In their opening match, Sunrisers Hyderabad lost to Kolkata Knight Riders by 10 runs. Sunrisers Hyderabad will lock horns with Punjab Kings in their next match of IPL 2021. The match will be played at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on April 21.
