Former Sri Lankan captain and Mumbai Indians’ head coach, Mahela Jayawardene has reckoned that most of the games in this IPL season will go down to the wire. Mumbai Indians have won one game and lost one game so far in their campaign and they still have some work to do with their batting which hasn’t been at its very best.

In the last game, Mumbai pulled off a stunner as Kolkata was cruising to win but Rahul Chahar picked up four wickets in his spell and restricted the run flow which helped Mumbai defend a paltry score. The wickets in Chennai have been very slow and the Mumbai batsman has found it hard to adjust. They will be taking on Sunrisers Hyderabad in their next match tonight.

Mahela Jayawardene Expects A Tough Challenge From Sunrisers

Mahela Jayawardene has reckoned that there will be a lot of close-fought games this year because of the different conditions and wickets. He hailed the Sunrisers for having a quality squad that has qualified for the playoffs mostly and is aware of the challenges they can pose on the Mumbai team. He also added a lot of value to the individuals in the team.

“I think, this season most of the games will be very closely fought. All the teams are quite strong and everyone is playing in conditions which they have to get used to. SRH is a team that always qualifies for the playoffs. They have a very good record and they are a very competitive team. They know exactly what their strengths are and they challenge any team in those strengths. Very talented individuals they have,” said Mahela Jayawardene

Mahela Jayawardene Delighted To Have Points On Board

Mahela Jayawardene was very happy about the fact that his team made a huge comeback in the last game against KKR and stated the importance of having points on board early in the tournament. He added that the wickets will remain the same and the executions of the bowling department will be very crucial to get ahead of the opponent.

“Having not played the best cricket in the first half of the KKR game, for the guys to come back was very good. To start the tournament, getting points on the board is quite crucial. The wickets will not improve, it will be the same. It has to do with the bowlers as well. I think it’s about execution in the middle. Both teams have some quality bowling and that is where the advantage lies. It will be a very interesting battle,”

Sunrisers have lost their first two games and they will be eager to get back to winning ways
