His sample came positive and has gone for a retest and we can know only confirm after that report comes,” the official told ANI.

When asked about other players, the CSK official said that while Indian players are heading home, the overseas players are awaiting confirmation from the BCCI on the route of travel.

“The players have started moving with Balaji staying in isolation as he tested positive. The foreign players are awaiting a confirmation from BCCI on the route of travel while the Indian players are heading home,” he said.

The BCCI, on Tuesday, suspended the 14th season of the Indian Premier League with immediate effect due to the rising Covid cases among players and support staff.

While KKR’s Varun Chakravarthy and Sandeep Warrier tested positive on Sunday, which led to the KKR-RCB match getting rescheduled, CSK’s bowling coach Balaji and a bus driver also tested positive.

The final nail in the coffin was laid on Tuesday when Delhi Capitals’ spinner Amit Mishra and SunRisers Hyderabad stumper Wriddhiman Saha tested positive for the virus.

With the IPL getting suspended and the travel ban imposed by most of the countries for passengers from India, there is a lot of apprehensions among foreign players about their safe travel back home. However, the BCCI has iterated that it will do its best to ensure the safe repatriation of all the overseas recruits.
