Sunil Gavaskar is totally unimpressed with Sanju Samson’s batting for Rajasthan Royals against Royal Challengers Bangalore in IPL 2021. Gavaskar said that being a captain, Sanju Samson has to stand up and deliver for his team. Samson scored just 21 runs in the match against Royal Challengers Bangalore. This was Sanju Samson’s 3rd consecutive low score in the tournament after a spectacular start.

During Rajasthan Royals’ first match against Punjab Kings, Sanju Samson smashed a marvellous knock of 119 runs. He ended up on the losing side but his century earned him a lot of accolades. However, after his spectacular start, Sanju Samson has totally failed with the bat in the next three games. Samson has scored just 26 runs in his last three games, getting out for 4,1 and 21.

The Captain Like Sanju Samson Has To Stand Up And Deliver, Says Sunil Gavaskar

While speaking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said that Sanju Samson has to stand up and deliver as he is the captain of Rajasthan Royals. He also explained the reason why Sanju Samson is not part of the Indian team.

“First and foremost, the captain has to stand up and deliver. He did it in the first game but that has been the problem with him. That is one of the reasons why he has not been featuring in the Indian team is that he scores runs in one game and then he looks to do it and carry on as if he’s batting in the next game from the same game, and that’s how he keeps getting out,” Sunil Gavaskar said.

Gavaskar also pointed out that Rajasthan Royals do not have big finishers at the lower order so the top order has to perform and score runs for the team.

“So therefore, I think if the captain leads by example, the captain scores runs because he is the one class act in the team… yes there is David Miller, there is Chris Morris who can come in and smash a few but at the top of the order, they need to get it right because what happens is that they have a little problem at No 5, 6 and 7.

“They don’t really have any finishers and that is the reason it is so important that the captain at the top of the order gets you lots of runs,” Sunil Gavaskar further said.

In their previous match against Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals lost by 10 wickets. Rajasthan Royals were totally outclassed by RCB openers Virat Kohli and Devdutt Padikkal, who made a 181-run partnership while chasing 178.

Padikkal also smashed his maiden century in IPL, a knock of 101.  Sanju Samson-led Rajasthan Royals have slipped to the bottom of the points table with 3 losses in 4 matches.
