IPL 2022- Multiple Big Businesses Show Interest In Buying New IPL Teams

The two new teams being introduced in the IPL 2022 season have garnered a lot of attention from big businesses. More than a dozen groups have shown interest in owning the two new teams on offer, reports confirm. The deadline for the sale of Invitation to Tender (ITT) documents ended on October 10 but the interest continues to grow.

The biggest group that has picked up the ITT documents is the Adani Group of Ahmedabad. With a magnificent stadium in Ahmedabad being constructed recently, the city turned out to be a major favorite for hosting an IPL team. Now, sources in the BCCI reveal that the Adani group is very much interested in the team.

The franchise cities that were put up by BCCI for purchase are Ahmedabad, Lucknow, Guwahati, Dharamsala, Ranchi, and Cuttack. Apart from the Adani group, Sanjiv Goenka of RPSG Group, Aurobindo Pharma, and Torrent Pharma is in the race to buy the two teams.

The BCCI further stated that it will schedule closed bidding on October 25 where the two new IPL teams will be finalized. The ITT documents for the same were set at a non-refundable price of INR 10 lakhs. Its deadline was initially supposed to be October 5 but was extended by 5 days.

Pursuant to request from interested parties, the BCCI has now decided to extend the date for purchasing the ITT document till October 10, 2021,” BCCI’s statement read.

According to Cricbuzz, certain groups had also requested the apex board to reduce the financial criteria of INR 3000 crore turnover and INR 2500 crore net worth. However, the BCCI refused to budge on the financial aspect of the new teams. Additionally, the base price for the new teams was set at INR 2000 crore.
