Gujarat Titans’ (GT) handed a crushing defeat to Mumbai Indians (MI) in Qualifier 2. GT won the clash by a whooping margin of 62 runs. Skipper Rohit Sharma once again failed to dictate the terms as he was dismissed on 8 runs in 7 balls. Rohit Sharma had a torrid IPL 2023 when he scored 332 runs in 16 matches with a strike rate of 132.8 & an average of 20.75.
MI’s star batters Cameron Green and Suryakumar Yadav should have capitalized on their starts as Suryakumar Yadav’s dismissal proved to be the turning point of the match. Yadav was dismissed on 61 runs in 38 balls and struck 7 fours and 2 sixes.

MI didn’t have a strong lower middle order like the defending champions GT. Ishan Kishan’s injury (*while fielding he was injured) put immense pressure on Nehal Wadhera who astonishingly opened the innings along with skipper Rohit.
MI fans would be utterly disappointed after the performance of Chris Jordan, the pacer has got a pretty good reputation in franchise cricket. Jordan was taken to the cleaners and conceded 56 runs in 4 overs spell and was wicket-less.

It would be interesting to see whether Rohit Sharma continues to lead the side after a dreadful season with the bat and was quite fumed up on the players on the field. MI now have failed to qualify for playoffs since the last 3 editions (*2021,2022 & 2023).
I don’t think Rohit Sharma was at his best in IPL- Sanjay Manjrekar
Sanjay Manjrekar was having an interaction with ESPNcricinfo. Sanjay Manjrekar questioned MI’s management in the first half of the tournament. Sanjay Manjrekar pointed out that Rohit Sharma looked off-colour throughout the season.
“Tactically the two best teams have been CSK and Titans, why not Mumbai Indians. So tactically also with off-field tactics, their players’ selection in the first half as well, where you would wonder why certain players played at that stage,” said Sanjay Manjrekar.

“There were some important losses that happened so all those you would think those are the controllable that he didn’t do a great job. What I won’t be too critical about is failures with the bat but tactically I don’t think he was at his best this IPL,” he added.
