Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra said that if Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) don’t invest in the Indian players for the next few seasons, they will never win Indian Premier League (IPL) 2023. He believes that they have struggled to get going in home conditions as well.
The 16-year-long wait for the IPL trophy continued for the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) as they failed to qualify for the playoffs in the ongoing edition of the league. They were eliminated after they suffered an 8-wicket thrashing at the hands of the Gujarat Titans (GT) in the last league game.
One of the main concerning things for them this season was apart from Skipper Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell and Mohammed Siraj, no other player played a vital role. They struggled to get going, which was the main reason behind their downfall.
IPL 2023 | India National Cricket Team | Chennai Super Kings (CSK) | Delhi Capitals (DC) | Gujarat Titans (GT) | Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) | Lucknow Supergiants (LSG) | Mumbai Indians (MI) | Punjab Kings (PBKS) | Rajasthan Royals (RR) | Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) | SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH)
Aakash Chopra also cited this as a reason behind their poor campaign and said that 4-5 players cannot them a title and RCB need to buy Indian players otherwise E Saala Cup Namde will continue to be ‘E Saala Cup Rehnede’. Speaking in a video posted on his youtube channel.
He said: “Kohli, Faf, Maxwell, Siraj did really well. But you can’t win tournaments with just 4-5 players. If you don’t invest in Indian players in the next two seasons, no matter how much you say ‘E Saala Cup Namde’ (this year the trophy is ours), it will continue to be ‘E Saala Cup Rehnede’
“RCB’s fanbase is one of the best. They do have some toxic fans on Twitter and Instagram, but most of their fans are brilliant. Their fanbase is stellar and perhaps that’s why they have such a big name and fame despite having not won a trophy.”
IPL 2023: “This team has struggled to qualify whenever the tournament has come back to Bangalore” – Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra further highlighted that whenever the tournament has come back to Bangalore they have struggled to get going. He said that they have read their home conditions well.
He said: “This team has struggled to qualify whenever the tournament has come back to Bangalore. The last three years, it was in Dubai and then Mumbai where they qualified every single time. This shows that they haven’t been able to read their home conditions well yet,” he added.
Royal Challengers Bangalore ended the IPL 2023 6th on the points table with 7 wins and 7 losses from the 14 games that they played.
