IPL 2023: "The Absence Of Rajat Patidar Did Put A Huge Amount Of Pressure On Virat Kohli, Glenn Maxwell And Faf du Plessis" - Tom Moody

Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a topsy-turvy IPL 2023. The Faf du Plessis couldn’t make it to playoffs despite winning 7 matches out of 14. The side missed the services of the dynamic batter Rajat Patidar (injured).  Rajat Patidar had scored 404 runs in 12 matches with an average of 40.40 and played invaluable knocks for the team.

There were a lot of expectations from RCB who had a brilliant pace attack in the form of Mohammed Siraj & Harshal Patel but Harshal was taken to the cleaners. Mohammed Siraj had a terrific season, he took 19 wickets in 14 matches with a staggering economy of 7.5 and an average of 19.74.

RCB’s management should have opted for an Indian cricketer as a replacement for dashing batter Rajat Patidar rather than the left-arm pacer Wayne Parnell. The side should have used Dinesh Karthik in the middle order rather than a finisher who had a forgettable IPL season.

Virat Kohli & Faf du Plessis would be crestfallen as the duo not only did the bulk of the scoring but dictated the terms against the opposition. It won’t be wrong to say that Faf du Plessis can get a national call-up who showed great mental application.

RCB was challenged when Rajat Patidar was made unavailable – Tom Moody

Tom Moody was having an interaction with ESPNcricinfo. Tom Moody pointed out that Rajat Patidar played a key role while batting at number 3 due to which there was huge pressure on Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis & Glenn Maxwell. Tom Moody though said that the trio played very well.

“RCB was challenged right from the beginning of the tournament when Patidar was made unavailable, the key figure at number three. It exposed their batting and put an enormous amount of pressure on their big three,” said Tom Moody.

“The absence of Patidar did put a huge amount of pressure on Kohli, Maxwell and Faf, but they absorbed that pressure and played particularly well,” he added.
