IPL 2024: 3 Players That Mumbai Indians Can Use As Impact Players In The Tournament
Table of Contents
Mumbai Indians (MI) had a terrific IPL 2024 auction claiming some of the top picks at a very reasonable price. They bought South African all-rounder Gerald Coetzee for just 5.0 crores. They also bought the Sri Lankan pace duo of Dilshan Madhushanka and Nuwan Thushara for 4.60 crores and 4.80 crores respectively.
The Afghan all-rounder Mohammad Nabi was bought in the accelerator round for just 1.50 crores. MI also traded in Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans ahead of the auctions.
Hardik Pandya will lead the Mumbai Indians this season as the franchise announced him as their new skipper last month. Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma is still in the team but will contribute as a batter, not a skipper. He has been one of the most successful captains in IPL with five titles to his name as a captain. However, MI received a huge backlash from the fans for removing Rohit from his role as a captain.
The impact player rule was introduced in the IPL last year which helped the franchises a lot in putting up young talent on showcase. According to this rule, teams could substitute one player in the match in between any of the natural breaks during the match. However, an impact player should always be an Indian player unless the team has less than four overseas players in the starting XI.
Mumbai Indians (MI) has a plethora of good players this season. It will be interesting to see which players will the Mumbai-based franchise use as impact players in the IPL 2024.
IPL 2024: 3 Players That Mumbai Indians Can Use As Impact Players In The Tournament
1. Nehal Wadhera:
Nehal Wadhera had a good last season in the IPL 2023 with Mumbai Indians. He bats in the lower middle order and is a really good aggressor with the bat. He can be a great impact player for MI as he bats down the order and can score runs at a high strike rate. Wadhera was also used as an impact player in the IPL 2023 as he cannot contribute much with the Ball.
2. Akash Madhwal:
The seamer from Uttarakhand made the headlines after picking up a fifer in the Eliminator round against Lucknow Super Giants. Akash Madhwal is also a great option for MI to play as an impact player as he cannot contribute much with the bat but his accuracy in bowling is something that will increase his value as an impact player if MI is bowling second in a match. Akash Madhwal took 14 wickets in just eight matches in the last season of the IPL and was Mumbai Indians’ second-highest wicket-taker.
3. Rohit Sharma:
The chances of using Rohit Sharma as an impact player are meek but since he will no longer be leading the side, he could be used as an impact player to take out the best of him as a batter. Rohit Sharma is someone who has batted in multiple positions and it is not clear how Mumbai Indians plan to use him. He has played a match as an impact player in the IPL 2023 during a match against KKR.
