Mumbai Indians (MI) found a gem of a fast bowler in the form of Akash Madhwal. Akash Madhwal took 14 wickets in 8 matches and the pacer got sheer pace and had shown good control over his line & length.
Rohit Sharma’s topsy-turvy form hurt the team as there was immense pressure on the left-handed batter Ishan Kishan. MI though would be quite happy with their performance as not many gave them a chance with an inexperienced bowling lineup.
The veteran spinner Piyush Chawla had a wonderful season with the ball in hand. The leg spinner took 22 wickets in 16 matches with a staggering economy rate of 8.11 as his variations were quite hard to pick.
Jofra Archer’s injury weakened MI’s bowling lineup as his replacement Chris Jordan couldn’t create an impact, especially in the death overs as the batters went berserk and capitalized on the loose deliveries.

Akash Madhwal’s story is extremely beautiful- Aakash Chopra
Aakash Chopra was seen speaking on his YouTube channel. Aakash Chopra made a massive statement on Akash Madhwal and said that he is in one of the five uncapped Indian players. Aakash Madhwal revealed how the pacer grabbed the eyeballs of the selection panel while playing for Uttarakhand.
“Akash Madhwal emerged as a diamond. If you were to pick five uncapped Indians – Yashasvi Jaiswal, Tilak Varma, Akash Madhwal, Rinku Singh, Prabhsimran Singh, Jitesh Sharma, and Suyash Sharma – these are the kind of names that come to your mind and he is right up there,” said Aakash Chopra.
“He didn’t play all the matches. His story is extremely beautiful. He started as a tennis-ball cricketer. He had even left cricket, did engineering and took up a job. Rishabh Pant was his neighbor and he used to like watching him play,” he stated.
“Then Uttarakhand got a Ranji team and Akash Madhwal went for the trials. He met Wasim Jaffer there, who said that he doesn’t bowl with the leather ball but he had speed. So he was prepared for one year with the leather ball and the rest as they say is history.”
