Ravichandran Ashwin, who plays for Rajasthan Royals in the Indian Premier League was recently asked by a fan on Instagram if he would be playing in the Chennai Super Kings in the future. Ashwin played for Chennai Super Kings before the franchise suffered a two-year ban in 2016 and 2017.

Ashwin was not retained by CSK in the 2018 mega auctions and he was bought by Punjab Kings in that season. Ravichandran Ashwin then joined Delhi Capitals ahead of the 2020 season and played two seasons for them before joining Rajasthan Royals in the 2022 season.

Ravichandran Ashwin reacted cheekily to a fan who asked him whether he would be playing for Chennai Super Kings once again in the IPL. The off-spinner replied cheekily, saying that he should ask the question to CSK captain MS Dhoni instead. The response came as the 37-year-old shared a picture of himself at Madras Cricket Club, where his journey as a professional cricketer began.

The Instagram post shared by R Ashwin was captioned, “Where I came from.” A user replied to the post, “When do we see you in yellow.” Ashwin replied, “Shoul Ask Annan (Elder Brother) Dhoni only.” MS Dhoni will play his 17th season in the IPL 2024 and is the most-capped player in the league with 250 appearances.

Ravichandran Ashwin played for the Chennai-based franchise from 2008 to 2015. In his eight seasons in CSK, he took 90 wickets in 97 games at an economy rate of just 6.46. His performance for the Chennai Super Kings helped him earn a place in Team India where he proved himself worthy. He represented India in the World Cup-winning campaign of 2011. Ashwin also bowled the famous last over against England in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy Finals.

Ravichandran Ashwin recently praised MS Dhoni by labeling him as a successful movie director, taking Suresh Raina as an example. He said on his YouTube channel, “Dhoni is not a captain. He is a director. He is actually a very, very good movie director like he is a director for the game. What does a movie director do? He picks characters, and he picks the exact cast for that character.”

“So, I think Dhoni, in his head, he picks a character, he knows where the character fits, who is the person for the character and gives that person the exact situation to play his role to the tee. That’s what I think he did with Suresh Raina (in the 2011 ODI World Cup),” Ashwin added.

Ravichandran Ashwin will be in action for Team India in the upcoming five-match Test series against England which is scheduled to commence on January 25. The first Test of the series will be played at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad. Ashwin is just 10 wickets away to reach a personal milestone of taking 500 Test wickets in his career. He will be the second Indian bowler after Anil Kumble to achieve this unique feat.
