IPL 2024 Auction: CSK Desperate To Buy Rachin Ravindra? Sunil Gavaskar Shares His Views

With just one day left for the IPL 2024 auction, former Indian opener Sunil Gavaskar believes that five-time champions Chennai Super Kings will be one of the teams to bid for Kiwi sensation Rachin Ravindra but will not be desperate to bring him on board. Ravindra is one of the most demanding players ahead of the mini-auction and is expected to get a huge price.

Rachin Ravindra emerged as one of the most effective players in the 2023 ODI World Cup. Ravindra ranked fourth on the list of top run scorers as he scored 578 runs from 10 matches with a total of three hundreds and two fifties.

Why will CSK bid for Rachin Ravindra?

Apart from being an opener, Rachin Ravindra can bowl quality overs with the ball which will give the team an extra option of the sixth bowler. CSK already has the likes of Kiwi match winners such as Mitchell Santner and Devon Conway. With former New Zealand captain Stephen Fleming behind the strategy of CSK’s campaign in the 2024 IPL, chances are more likely that the five-time champions might bid for Rachin Ravindra.

Speaking to Star Sports Sunil Gavaskar said: “I don’t think they will go for him because they have options. As you said, they have Moeen Ali who can play at No. 3. They also have Mitchell Santner as a bowler. They will come in the bidding but they won’t be desperate for Rachin Ravindra.”

Can CSK repeat 2023 heroics in 2024?

One thing that makes Chennai Super Kings different from any other franchise is their ability to achieve success without making many changes to the core of the team. Except for 202o and 2022, the five-time champions have qualified for playoffs in every edition of the Indian Premier League and have also played the finals ten times.

Chennai Super Kings also have the most wins in the Indian Premier League and out of 225 matches played, the franchise has won a total of 135 games.
