The IPL Auction for the 2024 edition is in the process as 332 players go under the hammer for this season’s IPL. Pat Cummins broke the record of being the most expensive purchase in the history of IPL. He was poached for a massive 20.50 crores by Sunrisers Hyderabad. Apart from all the hype around the IPL auctions, there has been a development in the Indian Premier League which will add a lot of excitement before the start of the tournament.

The trade window for the Indian Premier League will be open for 30 days before the start of the IPL 2024, as per TOI. This means that the teams will have an opportunity to approach each other for the trade of players. It is a good decision keeping in mind the injury concerns that might happen between the conclusion of the auction and the start of the tournament.

If a player gets injured for the whole season right after the auction, the purchase amount will be added to the franchise’s purse but there is no use for it if the auctions are over. However, this season the franchises can approach each other in case of such mishaps till 30 days before the commencement of the IPL 2024. The trade window can see the exchange of players among the teams.

There are already a lot of trade deals that have been done ahead of the IPL auctions. Hardik Pandya has been traded to Mumbai Indians from Gujarat Titans and has also been announced as Mumbai Indians’ skipper for the season. Cameron Green has seen himself landed in Royal Challengers Bangalore after spending a season with Mumbai Indians.

IPL To Have Open Trade Window After The Auction

The 2024 edition of the Indian Premier League is likely to commence during the last week of March and will conclude in the last week of May. It will be followed by the ICC T20 World Cup 2024 which is scheduled to be hosted by West Indies and United States. The Indian Premier League has been one of the most popular events in cricket’s history with a huge viewership among all platforms.

Chennai Super Kings, the defending champions have acquired the services of Daryl Mitchell, Rachin Ravindra, and Shardul Thakur in the auctions. They bought Daryl Mitchell for a whopping 14 crores and Rachin Ravindra for 1.80 crores. The defending champions have built a strong team and are looking to retain their title.

Pat Cummins, Daryl Mitchell, and Harshal Patel have been the top three picks in this year’s IPL auction. Cummins was bought for 20.50 crores by Sunrisers Hyderabad whereas Daryl Mitchell was poached by Chennai Super Kings for 14.00 crores. Harshal Patel was bought by Punjab Kings for 11.75 crores. These are the top three picks as of now but they can be surpassed given players like Mitchell Starc are yet to go under the hammer.
