Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra has come up with a bold opinion on the IPL 2024 auction and believes that there should be a separate purse for purchasing overseas players. Chopra stated that it is the Indian Premier League and Mitchell Starc doesn’t deserve more money than Jasprit Bumrah.

The IPL 2024 mini auction was a historical day for the Australian players as Mitchell Starc and Pat Cummins ended up being the top two buys of the auction. Starc at one end was bought by Kolkata Knight Riders for INR 24.75 crore, and Pat Cummins went to Sunrisers Hyderabad for INR 20.50 crore.

While speaking to Jio Cinema Aakash Chopra said, “There should be a different purse for overseas players, it is the INDIAN premier league. Starc doesn’t deserve more salary than Bumrah.”

Heading back to the Indian Premier League 2024 auction, a total of 333 players went under the hammer, wherein 72 players were sold and ₹2,30,45,00,000 were spent. Apart from Cummins and Starc, Travis Head who was the hero for Australia in the 2023 ODI World Cup semi-final and final went to Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Apart from the Aussie players, CSK picked Rachin Ravindra and Daryl Mitchell, who were standout performers for New Zealand in the 2023 ODI World Cup for INR 1.80 crore and INR 14 crore respectively.

After the conclusion of the IPL 2024 auction, the trade window will once again open on December 20 and the players can be traded 30 days before the start of the Indian Premier League.

The Indian Premier League 2024 will take place in March, April, and May, wherein there are reports that the tournament might shift out of India due to the upcoming Loksabha elections in the country. However, the 2019 IPL was held in India despite the Parliamentary elections.

The IPL 2024 will also be very special for players such as Hardik Pandya, Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill and MS Dhoni. At one end, Hardik has achieved a homecoming and will be leading the five-time champions. Rohit will play as a player after a long gap of 11 years.

Shubman Gill will be leading Gujarat Titans which will be his first captaincy experience of his cricketing career. Gill has been in brilliant form in the year 2023 and is the top run scorer in the ODI format, Gill has scored hundreds in all three formats and is also one of the most emerging players of the Indian team.

At last, the IPL 2024 can be the last time the fans will be seeing MS Dhoni playing on the cricket field. MSD, who retired from international cricket in the year 2020, was also expected to say goodbye to IPL in the year 2023. However, the former Indian captain has assured the fans of his presence in the IPL 2024 as well after the final of the 16th edition of the cash-rich league against Gujarat Titans.

The Indian Premier League is a platform where young players get a chance to showcase their talent and they become big names in the future. The same can be expected from IPL 17 as well.
