IPL 2024 Auction: My Dream Finally Happening! Sameer Rizvi Excited To Play Under MS Dhoni

Sameer Rizvi joined Chennai Super Kings during IPL 2024 auction. After joining the squad, he said that he is looking forward to playing under Chennai Super Kings skipper MS Dhoni. Sameer Rizvi also added that he never imagined that he would play under MS Dhoni in his first IPL.

Sameer Rizvi became a part of Chennai Super Kings during IPL 2024 auction. The franchise grabbed him for a hefty price of Rs. 8.40 crore. Notably, Rizvi was CSK’s second costliest pick after Daryl Mitchell at Rs. 14 crore.

The right-handed batsman had a base price of Rs. 20 lakh in IPL 2024 auction. However, Gujarat Titans, Delhi Capitals, and Chennai Super Kings engaged in a nail-biting bidding to grab the young batter in their squad. Ultimately, CSK picked him for Rs. 8.40 crore.

Something I Had Not Imagined In My Dreams Is Finally Happening: Sameer Rizvi On Playing Under MS Dhoni

During a chat with the news agency ANI, Sameer Rizvi said that he never imagined in his dreams to play under MS Dhoni in his first IPL. He also added that he is excited to play under the CSK skipper.

“It is everyone’s dream to play under MS Dhoni’s leadership. What’s better than getting to play under a captain like him in your first IPL? Something I had not imagined in my dreams is finally happening. I will get to meet him, spend time with him and play with him. He can groom anyone into a great player and I will get a chance as well,” Sameer Rizvi said.

Talking about his new IPL team Chennai Super Kings, Rizvi said that CSK is a champion team and he has heard about the positive atmosphere in it.

“Everyone knows that CSK is a champion team and is among the teams that have won the most titles. I have heard a lot about the atmosphere in the team and now will get to live it and become a better player and human being. I don’t know what to do with this amount I will hand over all money to my parents they will decide what to do with this amount,” Sameer Rizvi further added.

CSK Bought 6 Players During IPL 2024 Auction

Sameer Rizvi is a 20-year-old batsman from Uttar Pradesh. The right-handed batsman has played for India B Under-19 team too. He has made a few appearances in domestic cricket for Uttar Pradesh.

Rizvi has played 2 First-Class matches, 11 List A Games, and 11 T20Is. Notably, he owns a good record in T20Is, hitting 295 runs in 9 innings at an average of 49+ and strike rate of 134+.

Meanwhile, other than Daryl Mitchell and Sameer Rizvi, CSK bought Shardul Thakur for Rs. 4 crore, Mustafizur Rahman for Rs. 2 crore, Rachin Ravindra for Rs. 1.80 crore, and Avanish Rao Aravelly for Rs. 20 lakh. Ahead of the auction, CSK had Rs. 31.40 crore left in their kitty. They could pick 6 players from that amount including 3 overseas players.
